WINTERS – Marilyn Dawn, 72, of Liverpool, passed away March 2, 2021 in Queens General Hospital.
Born in Pugwash, Marilyn was a daughter of the late Arthur and Marguerite Wamback.
In Marilyn’s earlier years, she spent her days working for the Teddy bear Express and Make-A-Wish Foundation bringing smiles to the faces of many.
She and her husband, Joe, had a great love for travel and saw many parts of the world with New Orleans being their favourite to visit. She had always said how thankful she was for the things she saw and experienced in her lifetime.
Marilyn had many passions with some being her love of folk art as Joe was a great artist, eating ice cream, cats, spending many days in Frenchy’s, being silly, collecting anything Betty Boop, the dance ceremonies of the Funky Witches and Beach Meadows Beach which Marilyn considered her “happy place”.
Marilyn will always be remembered for her spunk, free spirit, her compassion, colourful hair and mostly as the lady who drove the pink Hummer.
Marilyn is survived by by her sister Diane DeBaie of Petticodiac, NB; her brother Lorne Wamback of Dartmouth; her niece Tammy (Joe) Colburn of Fordland, Missouri. Her chosen daughter Danielle (Lance) Slauenwhite of Brooklyn, her special little girl Cali Slauenwhite and her very good friend Faye Levy of Brooklyn. Marilyn will also be missed by many friends she considered family and her beloved fur babies.
Besides her parents, Marilyn was predeceased by her husband Joe, the love of her life and her step son Terry.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. A visitation service for Marilyn will take place on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 from 6 until 8 p.m. with prayers being said at 7:30 all in Chandlers’ funeral Chapel, Liverpool, NS. Marilyn was always more than anyone could ask for in a friend. She was always welcoming, supportive and fun loving. I loved our times shared together on Bells Pt Rd. Fortunately we had a lunch together a few weeks ago and I was able to visit her in the hospital less than a week before she died. I will miss her beyond words but she was ready to go. Rest in peace my dear friend. Linda

From the Nova Scotia Folk Art Festival…Lunenburg, NS
Marilyn & Joe were a force to be reckoned with when the arrived at the Festival in August each year. Both contributed to the upbeat atmosphere of the event.. Marilyn came for several years after Joe died “to help out” and so she did.
We..the management committee of the NSFAF..are saddened to hear of her passing. The South Shore is has lost a bit of its energy & colour upon hearing this news…We shall all recall the fun and spirit she brought to our event.
SUE KELLY, on behalf of the artists and friends of the NSFAF.

My connection with Joe and Marilyn first began through folk art. It didn’t take long to become a friend with this couple who embraced life. Marilyn lost a dear friend after Joe’s passing but didn’t give up the spirit to celebrate life. Here spirit, her force, her compassionate nature will be missed.

Please accept my heartfelt sympathy as you grieve the loss of this special woman who brought so much joy to so many people. I didn’t know her well, but always admired her wonderful outlook on life. She did things her way! And when this illness developed, Marilyn accepted the inevitable with strength and with grace, still finding joy around her. Rest easy Marilyn….you and Joe are together again.

I will never forget you my sweet, silly, sassy friend. It’s been very hard trying to get used to going to our favourite places, Frenchys and Beach Meadows. It’s just not the same without you. I think of you constantly, and miss our pranking each other. I would write out fake parking tickets and place them under your windshield while you were shopping in Sobeys, and then when you would leave weird stuffed animals on my car (like that giant blue octopus ) I knew you and Joe since the 1990’s from our mutual love of flea markets, and over the years we formed a friendship that really cemented itself after Joe’s passing. It broke my heart seeing how badly you missed him and had lost your zest for life. I am very grateful that I could help play a small part in helping put back a little bit of that spark back in your eye with our many silly antics at Frenchys and our almost daily trips to Beach Meadows and sunset gazing on the Liverpool Waterfront. Those memories are priceless, I will treasure them forever. Thank you Faye and Danielle for giving Marilyn such wonderful care in her last days. My sincere condolences to you both and to Marilyn’s family . This is a huge loss to our community. Marilyn I hope you knew just how well- loved you are. You will never be forgotten ❤️
