Zoë was quite simply, yet profoundly, a gift. A gift wrapped in love, integrity, intelligence, loyalty and beauty. A gift bestowed upon her family, her friends, her colleagues and her students. A gift that will only continue to grow and spread joy, kindness and love through her babies Maeve, Quinn and Finn. A gift that will forever remain in our hearts.
Zoë graduated from Liverpool Regional High and Saint Thomas University. Her teaching career found her back in Liverpool where she met and fell fiercely in love with and married Andrew. Theirs was a union woven and tightly knitted together with love, respect, caring, laughter and adventure. They were a unit of one. Zoë’s love for her children was deep and one only had to look at her attention to each of their birthdays. Maeve, Quinn and Finn always knew that their birthday was going to be special and would sit with Zoë discussing their themes with her, often months in advance. Zoë always planned and ensured that their day was celebrated to the fullest.
Their mutual quest for adventure took them to Nain, Labrador where Zoë would experience, perhaps, the most happiness of her short life. In early 2019, Zoë and Andrew and the children packed up their belongings and embarked on their northern journey. There, Zoë made her presence known both within the community and at Jens Haven Memorial School. She taught and guided as a substitute teacher and learned from her students. The culture, the environment and most importantly the people of her new community invigorated and thrilled her beyond compare. To the people of Nain we extend a warm “Nakummek.” It was there Zoë mastered the art of travelling by skidoo and her preferred method of travel, the side-by-side! Each morning before Maeve left for school, Zoë would always say “Be kind and have a great day.” A mantra that, to honour Zoë, we should all embrace.
Blessed to have known her and left to mourn and celebrate her are her husband Andrew, her children Maeve, Quinn and Finn, her mother and father Jane and Vaughn (Mullen), her beloved brothers Gavin and Ryan, her parents-in-law Dwight and Isabel, her sisters and brothers in-law Holly, Catherine and Paul, Sarah and Ryan, nieces and nephews, and her uncle and many and much loved aunts and cousins.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Service, Liverpool. The celebration of Zoë’s life will take place at a time and location to be announced once the scourge of Covid has passed. An e-transfer donation may be made in Zoe’s memory at rememberingzoe@gmail.com. These donations will be sent to Nain and given to the charity the most in need. To share memories or condolences, please visit www.chandlersfuneral.com
Zoë and her entire family received overwhelming support and compassion from neighbors, friends, the community of schools, the RCMP and the entire staff of Queens General Hospital. Thank You!

Our hearts are deeply saddened to know that you have to endure the profound grief at the loss of such a beautiful young woman. Dear Andrew & Family:
Our deepest condolences on the passing of Zoe. “Zoe” means “Life” and it seems as though she brought that to all around her.
We are family friends of the Winsor and have known Andrew since he was in grade 6.
After Dwight and Isabel retired they spent part of every year for 6 years at least in Hong Kong with us. It was there that the many tales of Andrew, Zoe and those lovely grand babies were shared.
There were pictures galore and truly we felt we knew Zoe and the joy she brought Andrew and the family. Sorrow is inadequate to describe the time and emotion you are experiencing now. We have been and will continue to pray for you all daily.
Love, Gary & Eva Winsor
Aisha Mullen
Zoe, we will miss you. Whenever I had the chance to be around you, you made me feel loved and always showed me kindness. As a child, I always loved that you had dark, curly hair just like mine. In the sea of blonde, blue-eyed Mullens, I loved having a cousin who looked like me. I still remember the hug you gave me the last time I saw you. It was warm, just like you. You smiled at me and I thought, “she is really quite lovely.” That thought still holds true today.
To all those that will miss her too, I send you my love, thoughts, and condolences. Rest In Peace, Zoe. Your littles ones have an amazing unit of people around them. They’ll be okay.

To the families of dear Zoe,
We are so saddened to hear of the loss of one of God’s most beautiful creations “Zoe”.
Our family was raised in Queens County, with “Miss Mullen ” as one of our teachers, and the Mullen children. When our small community loses such a valuable contributing member, it strikes us with ” Why “…….. I and my family will remember this beautiful lady for a very long time, her infectious smile was one, I myself will never forget, nor her passion for the kids she taught. I never knew Zoe in a personal manner, but in her profession as a teacher and as a Liverpudlian growing up in the same era as my daughter, she was always such a happy, smiling, wonderful young lady. May God watch over you all in the weeks and years to come and
we will be praying for you all and those beautiful little babes she leaves behind .
Our Sincerest Condolences,
Steven and Brenda Kennedy
Jamie Godfrey
Very sorry for your loss.

Jane, Vaughn, Andrew and the rest of Zoe’s family please accept my heart felt condolences on the loss of such a wonderful person that was Zoe. I never really got to know Zoe until the year I worked with her at Dr John C Wickwire a couple of years ago. She was a wonderful person and teacher…going into her classroom brought me joy everyday; the interactions with her students were genuine and heartfelt and watching her filled my bucket. We had lots of laughs that year and were even dubbed as “twins” once or twice when we wore the same black jumper. She asked me to be a reference for her as she embarked on her career in Nain; of course I said yes and gave her a glowing reference. I was so proud of her and the way she embraced the move and was happy to see her so excited (and stressed a bit of course). Zoe will always hold a special place in my heart and I will think of her often with a huge smile on my face. Take care of each other xo

My fondest memory of Zoë goes back to the time we played hockey. Jane pulled me from her grade 9 classroom into their hockey family, like I was one of their own. Sleepovers at the Mullens made it easier for our very early mornings around the province. Zoë and I would stay up half the night talking, excited for the games…that we usually lost. We had some great laughs and so much fun! Zoë had such a beautiful, bright smile. She was always giving her teammates so much encouragement.
I’m deeply sorry for your loss. She was a wonderful person and will be missed by the countless lives she touched.
Shannon and Corey Hartlen

We think of all of you every single day.

Such a beautiful testament to Zoe’s life and legacy ❤️ Words can’t express how sorry we are for you all. Zoe touched many lives in this community and it’s still difficult to comprehend her passing. I remember playing with her, Ryan and Gavin as kids in Brooklyn and she was always the happiest one in the room. Then seeing her grow up into an amazing mother and teacher, whom my son Levi absolutely adored, was wonderful and full circle. We hold you all in our thoughts and wish with all our hearts that you continue to surround each other with love and healing at this difficult time. May all hold tight to Zoe’s motto, “be kind and have a great day.”

Jane,Vaughn,Andrew and families:
I was so shocked to hear that beautiful Zoe left this earth so soon. She was one of those people that once you met her, even as a child, you could never forget her. I enjoyed our rides to Nursery School each day. We had so much fun there. I was one of her teachers. She played soccer with Jody in Junior High and was a force to reckon with. When she came back to teach in Liverpool we connected again as I was a TA and now she was the teacher. I had to call her Miss Mullen. We laughed about this. We talked lots about our special students. She had such compassion and was always craving more knowledge. She will always be remembered and we send our sincere condolences to all. “She will alway be perfect to me”

I spent many great years playing hockey with Zoe in our younger years. We didn’t win often, but we always had fun. While watching Maeve and Logan at the rink recently, we joked about our one win.
As adults I was lucky to witness the amazing person that Zoe became. The teacher who would quietly gather needed boots and jackets for kids in her class, the friend who would send thank-you notes for things that didn’t seem like a big deal, but meant a lot to her, and the amazing mom to her three kids – who also worried about her friends’ kids even when her world was crashing down. I felt guilty when Zoe asked about my daughter’s broken ankle while she was going through the unimaginable.
I will forever admire Zoe for all of these things, and for living with a love for life – when many others would have given up.
Andrew, Vaughn, Jane and kids – thank you for sharing Zoe with us. Sending lots of love your way.

My heart is filled with saddness to hear of Zoe’s passing. She lived by those words “be kind and have a great day” and it radiated through her contagious smile.
I remember her being at school on a very hot day being very pregnant and I walked in her classroom and said I do not know how you do it. You work here all day, go home and have 2 little ones. She just smiled and said I love it and that she had great support.
She was an amazing spirit and her spirit will continue to touch those around her. Continue to celebrate her and when you get together share all those great stories and memories.
Much love and support to you all. I am thinking about you everyday.

I vividly remember the first time I saw Zoe. She was walking down the aisle with Vaughn in her wedding dress at Lane’s. I immediately thought to myself that she was the most stunning woman I had ever seen. Once I met her, I instantly could see that her beauty was radiating from the inside out, making her entire being shine. It was a moment I have never forgotten.
Zoe was an absolutely amazing teacher. My sons, Isac and Wynston LOVED having Zoe as their teacher. They couldn’t wait to go to school and see her. She deeply cared for her students and they could feel that from her.
Whenever I had a conversation about life or motherhood with Zoe, it was always real and authentic. I loved that about her. It is hard to find people in this world who are authentic and true. Zoe was, and her impact on this community will never leave because she truly touched the hearts and souls of so many. Her joy and light will carry on through her children and the lives she touched.
I feel very blessed to have met her and will never forget how she naturally radiated light, just like a shining star.
Sending my deepest condolences and love to her family. May her light always be with you.
Rest In Peace, Zoe. Xx

Although we didn’t know Zoe it’s no surprise this exceptional young woman was made from you and touched so many lives. My in laws Anne & Adrienne Welch kindly shared this beautiful obituary with my husband Dave & I. Our hearts and prayers go out to you and the entire family. We have such fond memories of the days you looked after us on Beech Street and worked with mom.
Sincerely, Jennifer Campbell on behalf of Ailene and family (Joan, Dave, Greg, Shelagh, Jamie & Dennis).

Zoe’s happiness and beaming smile was contagious. It was so easy to love being in her company. I was lucky to have known her, if only for a short period of time. We spent one year in residence together, in our first year at STU. She was funny, carefree and intelligent.
I can only begin to imagine how incredible of a mother and partner she was in her years beyond university, and how deeply she was loved by those closest to her.
My thoughts are with you all during such a difficult time.

Vaughn, Jane, Gavin and Ryan. We are so so sorry for the loss of your precious Zöe. During the time I worked from your home, I would always be entertained with the outfits Zöe would come down the stairs wearing in the mornings. Although I did not know her well as an adult, We followed her goings on through Vaughn’s Facebook account and loved seeing photos of her family. We are deeply saddened by her passing. Our deepest condolences to the Mullen and Winsor families.

Ray, Sebastien and I send forth to you our sincere condolences on the loss of beautiful Zoe. I remember the special and creative girl who loved to dress up and put on shows. She was a force to be reckoned with and embraced life with passion. Our hearts go out to all who will miss her presence as a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother and a friend. They often say that it is not the length of years in your life that count, but the width of experiences each year we live. May the memory of the many experiences you shared with Zoe hold you close in this time of grief. Betty Jean Aucoin

Andrew, Jane, Vaughn, and families,
I am so incredibly heartbroken to hear of Zoe’s passing. Please know that Zoe and all her loved ones have been at the forefront of our thoughts since knowing of her illness. We are sending strength during this time.
Zoe and I have travelled many of the same roads over the years. From team mates and opponents (depending on the season), an undergrad, an education degree, falling in love with men living on the South Shore while we attend school in NB – making us travel partners many weekends in my little red Honda. Most trips we wouldn’t notice we hadn’t turned on the radio the entire time until we reached the Boston Pizza parking lot, where Vaughn or Andrew would pick Zoe up and travel on home to Liverpool. We also often fibbed to Vaughn and Andrew about the time we left…our travel time was a bit too quick to be honest about the departure time! Time always passed so quickly with Zoe. She was genuine, and so funny. Once teachers, we seemed to attend all the same interviews for teaching positions. We’d give each other heads up on who we saw entering and exiting the interview room, speculating who might be the successful candidate. Seeing Zoe at an interview meant tough competition. She was fierce, respected, and a born teacher. The last time I saw Zoe, our daughters were playing in the same hockey jamboree and we caught up. She told me all about heading to Nain. I was in awe of her adventurous spirit. I was left wishing I could be more like her. This week, I ended my morning message to my class each day with “Be kind and have a great day.” A motto to live by. I feel grateful to have travelled roads with Zoe. I will think of her often. Take care of each other.

We like to remember Zoë with her dazzling smile, bouncing curls and huge wave walking around town. She was a bright light in all our lives and will be missed dearly.

I am so sorry for your loss.
I’d been thinking about Zoë this week, remembering some times from our early teens, but I only heard today about her death. Although we drifted apart since high school, that has not erased the loving memories I have of her. For a time she was my confidante and there during pivotal moments of teenage years. Zoë will always be an important part of those memories. I am so grateful to have had that time with her. My heart is breaking as I come to grips with this news.
Sending loving thoughts to the Mullens and Winsors. May you find some comfort in these messages of just how vastly Zoë was loved.
With love,
Mary

There are no words to help ease the deep void Zoe’s passing has left . Having taught Zoe and her brothers, I remember her best as a little girl in grade 4. She stood out even then because she knew her own mind and held her ground. Perhaps the result of having two brothers. With her pixie haircut and wide smile, she was a joy. Meeting her again as a young woman and seeing her venture into marriage, motherhood and teaching, it was clear she was still a beautiful force of nature. As her neighbor, I loved seeing her, Andrew and the children out and about on our street and playing in their yard. She always met me with a smile and a hug. That’s how I will remember Zoe.
My sincerest sympathy to you all.

To all of Zoe’s family, our deepest condolences. There are not enough words to comfort such a loss, but hopefully knowing that so many people are holding you in their hearts and thoughts will help a bit.

I will forever remember your kind heart and pure soul. My thoughts are with your husband Andrew and three beautiful children Maeve, Quinn and Finn. Also your brothers Gavin and Ryan and parents Jane and Vaughn.
You touched my heart in many ways and while we may have lost touch , I will forever hold you in high regard. You taught me many lessons, you were a teacher before you were a teacher.

Dear Jane and Vaughn: Jane, you were such a wonderful friend to my late wife, Lorraine. This loss of your daughter is tragic, and such a huge loss to everyone who worked with her and loved her. Please accept my very sincere condolences.

Brian and I were devastated when we heard about Zoe’s passing. I am sorry to say that I didn’t even know that she was fighting cancer. The time I spent with Zoe, in our play groups, showed me how devoted she was to her children. She was so kind and respectful to the other families.
I lost my Mom from Cancer when I was 9 years old. My life changed drastically and thanks to my brave older sister, who took me in, l became the person I am today. Other than memories of my Mom my sister became my role model. She taught me perseverance, compassion and strength. My Dad and I became so close as he was the love in my life. I guess that what I want to say is that knowing you and Zoe your children are surrounded by strong women and a loving loyal Dad, so they will be just fine. Children are so much stronger than we are. Please take care of yourself as your children will follow your lead. Brian and I have you all in our thoughts.

Wow! I have just finished reading all these beautiful and heartfelt tributes and condolences to such a beautiful soul and a true testament to her as a wonderful mother, teacher and all round good person.
Dear Andrew, Jane, Vaughn, Gavin, Ryan, her beautiful babies and extended family.
What can I say that hasn’t already been said? You can be so proud of the life she lived and the lives she touched, we can never justify why some of the best are taken so early. Her beautiful spirit lives on in all of you and especially her precious children. Hold her forever close in your hearts. My thoughts are with you all.

Dear Mullen family,
How horrible is this news. I have such fond memories of Zoe growing up in Liverpool, and enjoying many soccer trips throughout middle and High school. I always admired her. Everyone loved her and she just touched the lives of others wherever she went. I can picture her beautiful smile and hear her laugh now. Wishing her gorgeous kiddos and husband strength during this time. On behalf of my family and I, sending our sincere condolences.
Beth Collins
Andrew and family,
Words are insufficient at such a sad time. Zoe so freely shared her gifts with her students, family and friends. Her legacy will live on through all the lives she touched. I hope, in time, the sadness of her loss is slowly replaced with sweet memories to celebrate her extraordinary life.
I am so sorry for your loss.
