Wile – Michael Melbourne, age 80, of Greenfield, Queens County, formerly of Hubley, HRM, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 5, 2023, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII .
Born in Liverpool, Michael was a son of the late Otto and Dorothy (Emeno) Wile.
In 1962 Mike graduated as a heavy duty mechanic and worked with several different companies in Halifax, retiring in 2002 from CN. Mike had many talents and there was no job that he would not try to fix. His sons called him an Engineer without his papers. He enjoyed working in the woods cutting logs and firewood, sharing his love of the woods with his family. He built his house in Hubley and his camp in Greenfield plus many garages and buildings. Mike kept all his spare parts that he always used at some point in time to fix his cars, trucks, tractors and other pieces of machinery.
Mike loved being able to live in Greenfield and work at whatever tasks he wanted to do. He took pleasure in going for boat rides, helping his friends and neighbors and just being outside with nature. Most of all Mike will be remembered for the love he had for his wife, children and grandchildren. He was loved and will be greatly missed.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Linda; sons, Jamie (Sarah), Jason (Malana); grandchildren, Maya, Emma, Mahala and Mikel; sisters, Pam (Gary)Wagner and Jackie (Dale) Ryan, and many nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Service, Liverpool. A private family burial will take place Wednesday, August 30, 2023 in Pine Rest Cemetery, Greenfield. There will be a celebration of life held Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the Greenfield Fire Hall, all are welcome to attend. What can I say about my Father inlaw, strong willed and devoted. Always wanting the best for his kids and grandchildren. Mike was constantly busy and passionate about everything he cared about . Mike loved to talk and was always up for company. When Mike Wile talked to you, you had 100% of his attention and he made me feel seen. Mike was not one bit shy especially when it came to Linda, everyone knew his Love for his wife. Powerful spirit that will live forever, Michael Wile. Mike left a strong mark on my soul.

Dear Linda and family, our northern family is feeling a sense of loss today. You and Mike have been such can-do people in our Nova Scotia experience, adjusting your regular patterns to connect with us in meaningful ways —especially in lake settings. I’ll never forget the great speedboat tour of your lake system that Mike was so pleased to give my brother and me. Mike freely shared his solutions for all kinds of challenges and obstacles in life. The last time I saw him, he was downplaying his health condition since it was getting in the way of his plans. Our family is offering prayers for you now as you gather the strength to adjust to the coming changes. That would be a Mike kind of idea…

Dear Linda, Jamie, Jason and family, We were so sorry to hear of Mike’s passing. We had many a good times at our cottage on More’s Point Road that we think of often. Mike had a wealth of information for whatever problem one could encounter. If we needed assistance with anything, Mike was right there in the moment. We spent many hours in the boat, chopping down trees, clearing the roadway, enjoying meals and just having good times together. Although we hadn’t spoken with you for a few months, you were always in our minds. As Mike and I were fighting similar illnesses at the same time, we were always comparing notes. It was always so refreshing to have someone to talk to such as Mike because he knew what I was going through as well. We will never forget Mike. He was someone who was knowledgeable about everything. Mike had a tremendous love for his family and was very proud of his grandchildren. He spoke of them often. We will miss you, my friend. We have many memories of you that we will always cherish. Love Earl & Sharon Mossman

When I was growing up in Liverpool, Michael lived next door. I remember him as easy to talk to, kind and helpful and he could fix anything. One day, a guy knocked on his door as he was having car trouble. His car had stopped in front of Michael’s house. Michael went down but was unable to get it started. The guy was so frustrated with his car that he offered it to Michael for $35. Once paid, the man walked away. Some time later, I noticed the car parked in Michael’s yard. He got it going and had a car for $35. I will never forget Michael taking great delight in telling me this story! My sincere condolences to Michael’s wife Linda and family. Rest in Peace Michael.

Linda and family, I was planning to attend the memorial but circumstances made it impossible. I am passing on condolences on behalf of Doug Daly , my brother in law , who worked with Mike on weekends at Harry’s old garage. There were many stories that could be shared from him but due to his circumstances he is not able to be there. Accept deepest condolences from Marsha and myself on Micheal’s passing. I always enjoyed our visits Greatly missed. Kevin Freeman
