Whynot ( Herygers) , Marielle Petronella Cornelia – 46, of Liverpool, passed away after a courageous fight against cancer on August 3rd, 2015 at Queens General Hospital, Liverpool.
She was born February 25th, 1969 on the family farm in Klein Zundert, the Netherlands to parents John Herygers and Johanna Herygers (Coremans).
She moved with her family to her new home farm in Lawrencetown, Annapolis Co., Nova Scotia on August 12th, 1980 where four years later she met her future husband, Mark. After graduating from Lawrencetown Consolidated School at the top of her class, she attended UNB Fredericton choosing several majors until finally Victoria General School of Nursing again graduating at the top of her class (1993), later earning her BScN at St. Francis Xavier University (2004). After several years of being a nurse in Lake Charles, Louisiana, she and Mark settled permanently in Liverpool, Nova Scotia. She continued her nursing career at Queens General Hospital where she was well respected and loved by her colleagues and many friends that worked with her. Marielle was an avid reader, crafter, gardener, and lover of the outdoors. And being a great lover of animals, she could often be seen walking her dog Jessie around Liverpool.
Besides her parents, Marielle is survived by her husband of 22 years Mark Jordan Whynot, Liverpool; brothers Udo (Judy) Herygers, Falmouth; Hans (Tracey) Herygers, Lawrencetown; sister Angelique (Alana) Herygers, Greenwood; sister in-law Terrena (Steven) Parnell, Milton and many aunts, uncles, and cousins in the Netherlands; and 2 nieces and 2 nephews of Milton.

Onze harten zijn gebroken.
Friendship is one of the hardest things in the world to explain – you just know it – you feel it in your heart. We loved Marielle and it is hard to find the right words to honor her life in offering condolence.
Together we have always been a fearless group of pals willing to challenge the world, our memories of good times shared are cherished. Days enjoying the outdoors, camping and cottages, lakes, rivers, beaches, road trips, campfires, long talks, parties over food and wine, laughing, telling dog stories, Pictionary and table games for hours on end, starting careers, big moves, we all enjoyed just being together. You always knew Marielle had your back no questions asked you could count on her for support anytime anywhere, our lives are better because of her, she had a beautiful soul.
Marielle achieved excellence as a nurse, she was an outstanding leader and conducted herself with the highest standard of professional practice, she was dedicated, respectful, honest, worked hard, showed kindness, gave compassion, helped teach others what she knew and stayed consistent and level headed through whatever came at her. They talk about soldiers being a band of brothers but nurses, doctors and all healthcare workers become a band as well. Everyone that worked with Marielle was in that band as part of her professional family and they mourn too.
Marielle will be remembered by the positive difference she made in our lives and for being so brave in her fight. We have lost true friend and the world has lost a caregiving angel whom can never be replaced.
We are here if any of you need us and only wish we could do or say something to help ease this pain – stay strong, Marielle would want that. She lives in our hearts because if you love beyond this world you cannot be separated by it, death cannot kill what does not die.
This poem is dedicated to Marielle , a friend that was made of the very best good stuff, we will miss her always – A NightingaleTribute:
When a calming, quiet presence was all that was needed,
She was there.
In the excitement of a miracle of birth or in the mystery at a loss of life,
She was there.
When a silent glance could uplift a patient, family member or friend,
She was there.
At those times when the unexplainable needed to be explained,
She was there.
When the situation demanded a swift foot and sharp mind,
She was there.
When a gentle touch, a reassuring push, or an encouraging word was needed,
She was there.
To witness humanity – its beauty, in good times and bad, without judgment,
She was there.
To embrace the woes of the world, willingly, and offer hope,
She was there.
And now, that it is her time to be at the Greater One’s side,
SHE IS THERE!

Hello Mark,
I am so sad to hear this news. Marielle was a great friend while we were in nursing school back in the early 90s. We had a lot of fun together….she was so bright and focused.
About 3 years ago, I was in emerg with my son who was injured in a hockey game. And who walked in but Marielle to aid us. It was a wonderful reunion under the circumstances.
Please know she is fondly remembered by us. Taken far too soon.
Sincerely,
Dorinda MacIsaac

To the Herygers Family….
John and Johanna, we remember Marielle as a very kind and loving teenager whose beautiful smile would light up the room. She was our first babysitter for our daughter, Emily, when we lived near your family farm, in Lawrencetown, many years ago. We were not surprised to learn that Marielle chose nursing as a profession; her compassion and thoughtfulness for people would have made her an excellent caregiver. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and her husband at this very sad time.

Mark,
I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved wife and best friend. My heart aches for you and her entire family. It is difficult for me to believe that I will never see her beautiful smile again. She excelled at her nursing taking pride in knowing she gave it her all. It did not matter if you were a Queen or the everyday day Joe her excellent care would have been the same for each She was shy but had a great sense of humor which she maintained to the end putting those she was leaving behind before herself. To those who knew her you knew that she was SPECIAL and that we were Blessed By God. Angels aren’t in Heaven with wings and a halo but are ordinary people who are kind and caring living ordinary lives.BUT they have SPECIAL QUALITIES that touch our hearts and souls in many ways That was our MARIELLE !!! Thank you Marielle for the care given to myself, family and especially my Mom. I pray Mark that you will draw strength in knowing how loved Marielle was. Our deepest sympathy— Zona, Stephen, Stevie, Brit and Don

Mark, Family & Friends:
To lose anyone is the most difficult time in your life. I did not know Marielle personally, but I did have the pleasure to converse with her at our ANSLS AGM’s each year. She was a beautiful and special person. Mark, you had the pleasure to go many places together and it will be a struggle to no longer do that in this life. To lose anyone is a great loss. I completely understand your pain as I too lost someone who I thought was my soulmate, to a car crash. No words will lessen the heartache at this time. However, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Take care of yourselves.

Gwendolyn Geddes
Dear Mark, Jesse and Marielle’s birth family and family of friends,
I had the pleasure to work as Administrative Assistant with Marielle in Clinical Education for South Shore Health. ( I am a returning to Nova Scotia Lunenburg County resident. ) Marielle was a breath of fresh air, non judgemental and unassuming with a huge heart and the gift of kindness and giving, which she freely provided. I admired and respected Marielle greatly.
Marielle is sadly misses. I would have loved to attend the funeral or service for the celebration of Marielle’s life but alas my dear brother passed away in Toronto during the same time frame.
Be well and let us cherish Marielle’s essence. With kindest regards, Gwendolyn Geddes aka “GG”

You have my deepest heartfelt condolences on your loss of Marielle. I was totally shocked to read of her passing. I am a nurse from NB. When I originally moved to Liverpool as a new grad, it was Marielle who helped orientate me to the unit, and help get me started in nursing “in the real world”. I was so scared, but she was always so patient and supportive of me. Eventually we lost touch, but through the years whenever I reflected on the people who have touched me the most on a personal and professional level – my thoughts would sometimes wander back to Marielle. Heaven has been made a better place. Sincerely, Lisa DeChamp RN
