WHYNOT – Barry A., 79, of Milton, Queens County, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2023 in Queens General Hospital, Liverpool.
Born in Liverpool, Barry was a son of the late Aulton and Maybelle (Croft) Whynot.
Barry spent his early years working as a truck driver for a book binding company and later moved to Toronto where he drove long-haul. This career fueled his passion for trucks, especially Fords, which sparked many opportunities for friendly banter with his family and friends. Barry spent the remainder of his working life at Bowater Mersey Paper Company in Brooklyn, NS.
Barry devoted many hours of his life to community service notably with the Nova Scotia Guides Association where he served many years in a number of executive positions, the RCMP Emergency Measures and Ground Search and Rescue organizations in both Queens and Lunenburg counties. He was to receive a 35 years of service award this year presented by Lunenburg Ground Search and Rescue. In addition to his many awards and recognitions, Barry was humbled by the acknowledgement for his role assisting with rescue and recovery operations for the Swissair Flight 111 disaster.
Barry was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman. He enjoyed camping and watching the Toronto Blue Jays and NASCAR. Barry was also very fond of animals and missed his beloved companion Lilly Mae Whynot.
Barry is survived by his loving wife Brenda (Whynot), sons Dwayne, Timothy (Angela), Paul (Lori) and Mark. His step-children Rhonda (Ray) Smith, Treena Dexter (Robert Oickle), and Anthony (Angie) Dexter. Grandchildren: Tyler, Staci, Patrick, Jamie, Rebecca, Holly, Cole, Jack, Regan, Erin and great grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Barry was predeceased by his great granddaughter Kinsley St. Hilaire and his brother St. Clair Whynot.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool where funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow. A private family burial will take place at a later time in Milton Community Cemetery. No flowers, donations to the Lunenburg Ground Search and Rescue Association. Online condolences may be made through www.chandlersfuneral.com.
Thank you to the team of health care professionals that cared for Barry during his illness in particular the Queens County VON, Queens General Hospital ER and Medical units.

Please accept my heartfelt condolences. I’ll always remember it time at “the Lodge”. Barry helped make a difficult time more bearable for me and several other friends while we received treatments. I’ll always remember his friendly banter and quick wit. Fly high Barry and yes, “what happens at the Lodge, stays at the Lodge”… Our favorite saying … What happened was a gathering of kindred spirits lifting each other up. Lifting you and your family up once again. Hugs Ol Fella
