Whynacht, Elizabeth L. “Betty”, 70, of Port Medway and Queens Manor passed away at Queens General Hospital on August 16, 2017 with her loving and dedicated husband by her side.
Born on September 7, 1946 She was a daughter of the late Ira and Marie (Payzant) Baker.
Betty was diagnosed at the early age of 29 with Multiple Sclerosis. During her years of remission, she kept as active as possible knowing inevitably her MS would progress. She maintained her weight and balance as a lifetime member of Weight Watchers, walking frequently and being active in the community as a past president of the Port Medway Firemen’s auxiliary. She was very proud to have taken the Dale Carnegie Training where all of her speeches were centered on her husband and children whom she loved so much.
Despite her progressive disease, she and her devoted husband of 51 years, Byron, raised three amazing sons, Blair (Grace) of Ottawa, Stephen (Krista) of Bedford and Derek (Theresa) of Sydney Mines. She is also survived by sisters Connie (Fred) of Bridgewater, Francis (Merrill) of Charleston, brother Ricky (JoAnn) of Port Medway and step-grandchildren Dylan, Courtney and Cailey of Sydney Mines. With heavy hearts she will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her sister Diane Horsley.
Visitation will be held on Sunday August 20th, 2017 from 7-9 pm in Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. The service will be held 11:00 am on Monday, August 21st, 2017 at the Port Medway Baptist Church with Rev. James Haughn officiating. A celebration of life will follow at Port Medway Fire Hall.
Family flowers only, donations may be made in honor of Betty to the MS Society of Canada or to Queens Manor, Liverpool. Betty’s beautiful smile touched everyone’s heart especially all of her wonderful caregivers, nurses at Queens Manor and Dr. Woodford, where she spent nearly the last 12 years of her life. Special thanks to Dr. Cosh and all of the nurses at Queens General who provided her with the necessary acute care in her final days. She will be sadly missed and forever remembered by all who knew her. Online condolences may be made to www.chandlersfuneral.com

Dear Byron and Family,
I have not met Betty personally but she became a wonderful presence for me simply through you talking about her, Byron. In my mind she always smiled. And, yes, I know she fought difficult health challenges. But, she was very much loved and, I am so certain, that this love carried her in every way. Betty is in a good place now. And now my thoughts are with you all. You are missing your wife, mother, sister and the many relationships Betty had, and you feel the hole which her physical absence leaves accutely. I wish for all of you that grieving will be replaced by healing and lovely memories over time.
