Thinking of Verna’s family and all the lovely memories you must have of a smart, witty, and friendly mother, grandmother, aunt, sister. As a St. John Ambulance Therapy dog team, I was lucky to chat with Verna on Saturday mornings at the Manor. She liked Phoebe best, my 13 year old dog who has been retired for three years. She liked Willy too, but Phoebe would lean into her and Verna, not content to just pat her head, would rub her ribs and scratch her back. Verna’s smile was lovely, so welcoming. When I walked the hall and turned the corner into the dining area, she would be waiting in the first chair and light up when she saw us coming. Like my mother, who has had dementia for many years and lives in the states, Verna never had a mean word to say or a complaint, only her welcoming smile and kindness.
