WENTZELL – Maxine A, 77, of Halifax, formerly of Brooklyn, Queens County passed away peacefully in Halifax Infirmary January 8th, 2010.

           Born in Milton, she was a daughter of the late Lester and Violet (Joudrey) Whynot.

           Maxine was a sales clerk with the former Worthmore Store in Liverpool in her early years. She was a homemaker for most of her life and enjoyed baking, quilting, knitting and reading.

She is survived by her step-father Lester E. Smith (Evelyn) of Liverpool, son David (Kathy) of Caledonia, ON; daughter in law Yvonne Wentzel of Milton, grandchildren Jessica, Steven and Kyle, sister Shirley (Richard) Pierce of Edmonton AB., brothers Sherman (Carolyn) of Lunenburg Co., and Lester (Fern) of Milton.

She was predeceased by her husband Leaman, son Gary and brother Lorraine.

Visitation will be held Monday January 11th, 2010 from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m., a funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 12th, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. both from Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. Burial will take place in Seaside Cemetery, Brooklyn. Reverend Jennifer Garbin officiating. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Canadian Cancer Society. Online condolences may be made at www.chandlersfuneral.com

My deepest sympathies go out to your family.I may have only known Maxine for a short period of time but she was truely a remarkable woman! And she will truely be missed by myself and all of her friends at the kidney dialysis unit at the VG/Dickson in Halifax.

Hi Shirley and family. I last spoke with Maxine on Monday night. She wasn’t feeling all that well, but her spirits were still bright. I will miss Maxine and think of her often. It was a pleasure talking with you on several occasions Shirley during your vacations to Halifax. My thoughts are with you all.

My brother Murray spoke of how you and Gary meant so much to him. He was closer to you two than anyone back home. He would have been broken hearted to hear this sad news. I speak for him as he has been gone for 5 years now but his words are still clear about Maxine and Gary.
