Marilee Joan Weagle
It is with overwhelming sadness that we, the family of Marilee Joan Weagle, announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, sister and life long friend on July 2, 2023.
Born in Liverpool, daughter of the late George and Phyllis (Wesley) Mitchell, Marilee had faced some difficult times early on in life which eventually spearheaded her motiviation to become the person so many people have come to know and love. Marilee was known to be a social butterfly and was always up for a chat with whomever came her way whether she knew you or not. She was sometimes known for her stubbornness, sarcasm and her undying love for dancing, variety shows and the old 50’s and 60’s country music. She often referred to herself as a “plain Jane” or a “ plain Joan” as Joan was her middle name. She was quite content living a simple life, never one for travelling or living outside of her means. Marilee was quick-witted with a dry sense of humour. She was often blunt and would soon let you know when she didn’t agree with something.
Through the years, Marilee worked a variety of different jobs, some of which included working at a place known to the locals as “Sammy Sapp’s” grocery store. Later on, she worked at the People’s Department Store and then a very popular corner store known as “West End Grocery”. It was in the mid 1980’s when Marilee began working as a C.C.A. at Queens Manor Nursing Home that she discovered her true purpose in life. It was her next level of caring and compassion that ultimately defined her and her “mother hen” mentality. She was the perfect fit for the job. She was finally in an environment where she felt complete. Coupled with her unrelentless devoted dedication she put forth during every shift, her commitment to her job was nothing short of phenomenal. She worked diligently everyday to make sure residents were cared for to the best of her ability and beyond. She never tired or weakened regardless of how busy a particular day had become, always pushing forward with her “my way or the highway” attitude. The more she worked, the happier she became continuing to ensure the best and most comfortable life possible for those in her care. She worked countless hours taking on many overtime shifts. Marilee also volunteered her days off to gather clothes of residents who had passed. She washed, dried, ironed, folded and categorized to size, shape and colour before re-distributing to residents who had little or no clothing at all. She was so proud, always thinking of what others didn’t have, much like herself growing up. It truly was a labour of love.
Eventually, after 32 years working at the Manor, Marilee decided to retire at the age of 72 and bring home the love of her life, Ross, to care for him and fulfill his final wishes until his passing a few years later. In the years that followed, Marilee could always be found waving to passersby as she sat enjoying the sun on her front deck or in the picture window from the comfort of of her living room. A friendly wave that never went unnoticed will now be a reminder of your kind caring soul and further continue to keep your memory alive within us all. May your beautiful legacy live on in all those you have touched in this life and may you rest peacefully knowing that you were an angel here on earth long before you ever became one in Heaven…
Marilee is survived by her daughter Karen of Liverpool, her sons Kris (Theresa Vaughn) of Western Head and Kevin (Karen dean) of Moose Harbour. Four grandchildren. Sisters Janice Mitchell of Liverpool and Peggy Archibald of Simcoe, ON. Brothers George “Puddy” (Margaret) of Liverpool and Brian (Crystal) of Barrington Passage.
Besides her parents, Marilee was predeceased by her companion Ross Levy and her daughter Karla Colp.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool where visitation will be held on Friday, July 21, 2023 from 6 until 8 p.m. with prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be at a later date. No flowers, donations may be made to IWK, Queens Manor or a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made to www.chandlersfuneral.com

Kevin, I’m so sorry to read about your Mom. I took an instant liking to her the first time we met. My fondest memory is her talent for sewing. She had quite the collection of Halloween costumes back in the 80’s. She gave me lots of tips for improving my skills while shopping in the fabric store where I worked. Wonderful lady. She will be missed.

To Marilee’s Family
I was very lucky to have called Marilee a co-worker, but most importantly my best friend for 30 years. If I lived another 30 years I could never have another friend like her. We always said we wished we could have written a book about working at the Manor, especially our night shifts.
We shared so much in our lives, all the ups and downs, but most importantly the laughs! No matter what was happening we could always have a laugh or lots and lots of laughs. For that I will be forever thankful.
I hope the memories you shared with Marilee will make you laugh and help during the difficult time ahead.
Until we meet again, Murl (her nickname)
Love you, Crystal

I was saddened to read of Marilee’s passing and my very sincere condolences to her family and to her former work family. I had the great pleasure of being Marilee’s charge nurse for a number of years. When I was new to LTC she was a huge help in getting up to speed on the residents and their care. She gave wonderful care to her residents and took great pride in her work. Her other great love was her family and we used to hear so many stories of her children, Ross, and her extended family. She was a person whose heart held much love and that was a wonderful thing.

Wow…..this obit says it all! Marilee sure had her own ways of doing things, in just about every department….but her way was passionate and caring. If there was pub afternoon going on or a birthday party, anything that music was involved, you would see her out in the big room dancing up a storm with any resident she could convince to dance with her……if nothing was going on in the big room, she was checking those beds or cleaning a closet….her ways was missed shortly after her retirement. I personally missed her stories in the staff lounge, her chocolate milk and mars bars dinners, an occasional chat at the grocery store, her waves as you drive by….I guess anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Marilee has a story or two…..condolences to all who knew and loved her!

I worked at Queens Manor with Marilee for over 20 years and she knew where everything and everyone was when you needed it or them. You will never find a more devoted worker than Marilee was. She loved her job. She also loved her family and talked about them a lot. She treated the residents with the respect they deserved. I know when she retired it was a great loss for the Manor and the residents. Rest easy Marilee and I know Karla had the couch all ready for you to sit with her. My condolences to all of her family.

Kevin, Karen and Kris and all of Marilee’s family, we’ll never know all the things this woman did in her life but she made laugh as teens when we worked with her at People’s Store and stayed friends throughout time .
She saved all hers and Ross ‘s bottles for our cub and scout troops throughout the years , excited when our kids made sure to come and collect them, always with a smile. The waves from her window we always looked forward to and now miss horribly. She made her mark on many folks, one of the real people of our time.

Dear Marilee’s Family ,
It is so difficult to express the deep sadness I feel in knowing a person as Marilee has been has now left us .
A remarkable woman for certain !
We worked together for 25 years at Queens Manor Her persistence in achieving her position was indeed a strength and from that day forward her determination to be one of the best she achieved.
Marilee had tireless energy, commitment, enthusiasm, and dedication as a PCW ( CCA) . She went beyond in giving care and compassion to each resident and life at Queens Manor for which we are ever grateful for.
May she now be at peace .
Much comfort and love to her family at this time

I am sending sincere condolences to all of Marilee’s family. She was always a strong and determined person and a very easy person to like. She had a great sense of humor and loved her family more than anything. She was a great supporter to me whenever I’d have a new book for sale… in she’d come with her list of names to buy books for Christmas gifts. She’d say “if anyone one of my family come for books don’t sell them to them because I already have them”. I will certainly miss seeing her.
