Elmer Banford Weagle
It is with great sadness and gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the passing of Elmer Banford Weagle, 89 years, on February 16 2024 surrounded by family at Fisherman’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg .
Born in Waterloo NS, Elmer was one of eight children of the late Daniel and Susie (Hebb) Weagle . He married the love of his life, Ramona (Freeman) on November 18, 1958 and together they raised their two children with pride and love.
Elmer was an incredibly kind, gentle, wise man and was always willing to help anyone at any time. He formed inummerable lifelong friendships from childhood through his working and retirement years. He was devoted to his family and so enjoyed his visits with his grandchildren, as well as extended family and friends. He loved the outdoors and any time he could spend in the woods with his tractor was a great time. He was well known for his love of gardening and his amazing bean crop was second to none. He opened his garden to cottage neighbors who wanted to do some planting.
His working career started with helping build houses and barns with his family, ultimately accepting a job with Harry Freeman’s Mill in Greenfield. Here, he spent thirty-four years in many jobs including being a foreman and running the planer mill in which he took great pride and mentored many others passing on his skills through  his work . He had a great sense of community and was a member of the Chelsea United Baptist Church and honorary member of the Greenfield Fire Department.
Elmer is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Ramona (Freeman) and his children Everett (Carmen) and Richard as well as grandchildren Kirsten, Rachael (Eric), Griffen, Garrett and Greyden as well as his brother Harris (Doris).
He was predeceased by his parents as well as siblings Violet (Heim), Eldon, Mervyn, Verna (Richards), Phyllis (Langille) and Jean (Croft).
Arrangements are under the direction of Chandler’s Funeral Home Liverpool. A funeral service and celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday February 20, 2024 in the Greenfield United Baptist Church, Greenfield with Pastor Cathy Uhlman officiating followed by a reception in the Greenfield Fire Hall. A private family graveside ceremony will be held in Pine Rest Cemetery.
