WEAGLE – Elizabeth Clare “Liz” ,79, of West Caledonia, Queens County, passed away peacefully in the Halifax Infirmary, on Wednesday November 18, 2015.
Born in Devonshire, N.S. she was a daughter of the late Richard and Grace (Crouse) Hawkes.
Liz was an avid walker and nature lover. She also enjoyed shopping as she took great pride in her appearance. She was an active, vibrant woman and had an unwavering sense of humour. She enjoyed her great grandchildren immensely and gave them wonderful memories to carry them through. During her short illness, she showed immeasurable strength, grace and dignity for her family. Liz will be lovingly remembered as an extrordinary mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, best friend and confidante.
She is survived by her loving companion Randolph Wamboldt; daughter Lori Ann (Ivan) Uhlman of Caledonia; son Carl (Wendy) Hawkes of Caledonia; grandchildren Barret (Alice DeYoung), Joel (Dollie Campbell), Candice (Adam) Flemming; great grandchildren Emily, Harmony, Nathan, Jake; sisters Marie Rowter of Caledonia; Irene Murray of Wilmington Mass; Evelyna (Gerald) MacQuarrie of Pleasant River; brothers Robert (Mildred) of West Caledonia; Fred (Ruth) of Harmony, Ray of Caledonia; Vernon (Joyce) Hawkes of Hunt’s Point and especially her “furry companion” Zoey.
She was predeceased by her husband Edward; sister Eleanor Donnellan and brothers Gerald, Paul, Herman, Arthur.
Visitation will be held Sunday November 22, 2015 from 6.00 p.m. until 8.00 p.m. and funeral service will be held Monday, November 23, 2015 at 11.00 a.m. both from St. Jerome’s Catholic Church in West Caledonia, Father Keith Billard officiating. Interment will take place in St. Jerome’s Catholic Cemetery. Family flowers only by request, donations may be made to the I.W.K. foundation or the Kidney Foundation of Nova Scotia.
