Valerie and I go way back. We would meet at the corner of Church and Union Streets and walk to school together most days. Wind, rain, snow we trudged along together. In Grade 7 we sat in the last two seats in the last row of home room and kept one another entertained. We took different paths as the years passed. but whenever we’d run into each other it was warmth and fondness for a shared past. She was smart as a whip and resilient, had a great sense of humour, laughed easily with that mischievous smile, despite some tough times. I am so saddened to hear of her passing. Sincere condolences to her family.

Great times at the RCL#38 singing with her brothers and Sharon Johnson. Since I moved out west we kept in touch through social media. I’ve seen the pride in her kids, grandkids that she had.
I’ll miss her posts on here but going to remember the steak night darts, her as bartender, her as a wonderful person who had a huge heart.

I was shocked and saddened to learn of Valerie’s passing. She and my mom were friends since they were kids growing up on Old Port Mouton Road and George Street in the late 1950s and 1960s. When they got together, you knew you were in for a good laugh. They both enjoyed life to the fullest and loved to have fun. Their friendship lasted a lifetime. I can only hope they’re laughing together once again.
Condolences are being sent to all of Valerie’s family.
