With saddened hearts we are announcing the passing of Elsie Marie Veinot, age 83 of Caledonia, Queens County on Sunday, February 22, 2015 with family by her side.
She was born to Dorothy and Wilbert Hupman at their home in Summerville Center on March 21, 1931.
Mom was a gentle and quiet woman with a generous heart; she volunteered at the North Queens Nursing Home, VON Queens and spent many hours knitting baby bonnets for the newborn babies at South Shore Regional Hospital. Perhaps her goal of having her 5 children complete grade 12 came from her teaching at the Westfield School in 1949; her goal was realized. She had many friends in Caledonia; they gave her great joy.
She is survived by her loving children: Ted (Edie) First South, Dave (Linda) Pine Grove, Ferne Selig (Darrell Chute) Nictaux, Bev Rowter (Dan) Conquerall Mills and John (Debbie) Kempt. She will be remembered by her 16 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren as well as her brothers Nick (Ruth) Comox, BC; Elmer Huntsville, Ontario, George (Elaine) Summerville Center and Bob Liverpool ; her brothers-in-law Vernon Veinot (Betty) Ottawa, Ontario, Fred Veinot(Janette) Langley, BC and her sister-in-law Brenda Lewis Halifax.
Mom was predeceased by her husband Richard, grandson Ian, her parents, her sister/brother-in-law Althea/Raymond Hanley and her sisters-in-law Marg Hupman and Joan Veinot.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. Funeral service will be held at the Caledonia United Baptist Church at 11 am on Friday, February 27, 2015 with Rev Carol Smith officiating; reception to follow at the Christian Education Center (Church); private family burial to follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the North Queens Fire Association, the North Queens Community School as a grade 12 graduation prize or VON Queens Branch. Online condolences may be made to www.chandlersfuneral.com
Her family would like to acknowledge and show their appreciation to the caring and competent caregivers that were involved in Mom’s care including Meadowbrook Manor, Dr. Norah Mogan and the Medical Unit staff nurses at Queens General Hospital.

To everyone in Elsie’s family,
So sorry to hear of Elsie’s passing. Since Mom passed, Marie and I have not been able to sit down with her and Mom in the afternoon to hear all the latest gossip, as was a tradition for a number of years in the summer. I have however spent many periods of a few minutes each catching up with her, usually in her car in front of CloverFarm. She was a great lady always friendly and always had a good thing to say. I know how difficult this is for you all however, I understand that you had the opportunity to spend time with her before she passed and I know that this is comforting. Our thoughts are with you all.

A lot of years have passed since Elsie & Roxie were neighbors, but a lot of good memories came from those two houses in Caledonia. When I saw your mother at Brenda’s, she always looked lovely: fashionably dressed with a lovely manicure. She was a talented and classy lady whose smile lit up the room. Treasure her memory.
