Beek Patricia Cyd Van

VAN BEEK – Patricia “Pat” Cyd, 69, of Eagle Head passed away on Friday, June 25, 2021.
Born in Liverpool, NS, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Betty (Reid) Killam.
Pat was the loving wife to Joe van Beek, proud mom of Liam (Justin Boisvert) and Peter (Stephanie van Beek), and she was thrilled to have just become a grandmother to Theo van Beek.
After many years living in Ottawa, ON. where she worked as a nurse at the Ottawa Hospital Rehabilitation Centre, Pat retired and returned to Nova Scotia to be closer to her family. She spent her time in Eagle Head reading, watching movies, gardening, tending to her rambunctious cats, and – whenever possible – beating Liam at Scrabble.
Pat was an amazing and adventurous chef who took great pleasure in trying new dishes and experiencing food from around the world. She also loved preparing food for others and would pour over different recipes to test out. There are more cookbooks in her house than any other type of book, and one of her favourite activities while travelling abroad was to check out the local grocery store to see what different things she could try. When getting ready for her kids to come and visit, a key activity was to plan out all the special meals they would want to have (for Liam it was usually cheesecake and cabbage rolls, and for Peter it was lasagna and strawberry shortcake – they both always wanted fresh fish). She didn’t bake often, but when she did, it was always delicious. Her kids will especially miss her Christmas shortbread.
Pat will also be sadly missed by her sisters Shaune (Gordon) MacLeod, Randi (Ted) Dickie, her brothers Bill Killam, Greg (Lisa) Killam, her sisters-in-law Linda (Daniel) Deschenes and Joanne Burhoe, and her many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Pat was predeceased by her husband, Joe, and her sister Elizabeth (James) Keating.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, NS. A time of remembrance for Pat will be held at the Seaside Community Centre, Beach Meadows on Monday, July 5, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. Covid 19 protocols will in place. Please bring a mask, provide contact tracing information and maintain social distancing while attending the remembrance. No flowers by request, donations to the Kidney Foundation of Canada would be greatly appreciated. Online condolences may be made to www.chandlersfuneral.com.
