Martin Withrow Uhlman (also known as “Marty” and “Marty Mar”)
It is with sadness, yet relief, and no suffering, Martin went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Martin was a kind, caring and generous man. He was one of 14 children, so he knew a thing about sharing and making do. He very much enjoyed the simple things in life; while appreciating deeply all of God’s beautiful creations. He enjoyed his many years of driving the school bus, good food especially fish and chips, and even a better cup of tea. Somehow, he always had room for dessert. He would say… “my dear, I don’t need it, but I’m gonna eat it”. He enjoyed his home and especially his “fix it shop” Other people’s junk was truly his treasure. He could make anything work again. When he married our mother (Marion Daniels) he inherited her adult children. Martin did not have children of his own and with no expectation for him to fulfill a father role, he treated us with love and respect. We will miss his joke telling, words of wisdom and his very warm wood stove fires. He will be missed by his community and all those who knew and loved him. All would agree he was the sweetest man to walk through their doors.
Martin is survived by his step daughters; Annette (Roland) LeBlanc, Angie (Lindsay) Drummond, Donna (Ricky) Arenburg, his step daughters in law Joanne Daniels and Barb Daniels. His sisters Edith Ball and Florence Uhlman and his brother Avery. He will be also be dearly missed by Lexy (as Martin called her “Lesty”) and Joesph.
Besides his parents, Martin was predeceased by his first wife Adela, his second wife Ruth and his third wife Marion; step sons David and Darren as well as a number of siblings.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, NS. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in Chandlers’ Funeral Chapel, Liverpool. Pastor Royce Getson officiating, followed by a reception. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Westfield. No flowers, donations to Westfield United Baptist Church. Special Thank you to the nurses and doctors on the 3rd floor Surgery Unit at the South Shore Regional Hospital. Also, to Stevie and Nikki for all the special care they gave Martin. And to his friend Betty whose company he truly enjoyed.
In Martin’s words… “I have lived a good 88 years”.
