THEAKSTON – Robert “Bob” Eugene 80, of Greenfield, Queens County.
Mom (Freda) welcomed Dad into heaven on January 19, 2015.
Born in Greenfield, he was son of the late Major Gordon and Evelyn Hughena (Hunt) Theakston.
He told us his greatest accomplishments were his children, Jeff, Jennifer (Andrew) Moir and Jamie. He loved to talk about his granddaughter Alexandra Moir and the beautiful harp he made for her to use in Music Therapy work. Serving in his church, Greenfield Baptist, singing in the choir, doing work in the community and helping out wherever needed made him happy. Mom and Dad worked side by side building their own houses and cottages and Dad was very proud of each and every one. Before retirement, Dad worked at CBC Halifax as an audio technician and then technical producer on many shows including Don Messer’s Jubilee and Singalong Jubilee. He enjoyed reliving these days with whomever would listen. He was a kind and hard working man and will be greatly missed!
No visitation or service per Dad’s request.
We would like to thank Pastor Wade, Doug, Shirley and Marilyn for their unending love and support.
Donations may be made to the Greenfield Baptist Church, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or the Canadian Cancer Society. Online condolences may be made to www.chandlersfuneral.com

Dear Theakston Family:
Families have gotten so much bigger with each generation one doesn’t get to meet the off springs of distant cousins. Bobby was the second cousin of my mother. Her mother was a Hunt. We would visit Greenfield when we were young, but didn’t get to meet Bobby until much later in life. He was a very handsome gentleman. I hope you will find peace in the memories you have made with your Dad and may they live on in your hearts and minds.

So very, very sorry to read about Bob’s passing. I have many memories of years at CBC, planked salmon dinners in Greenfield where we would reminisce and many phone calls when I worked in Liverpool. Rest in peace and my thoughts to his family.
Bob was a beautiful person. His presence was uplifting, and it was a privilege to know him. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.
Jennifer, Jeff and Jamie
Many happy memories of times with your family growing up. Your parents were sweet and wonderful people. My thoughts are with you in this sad time. Pearl and family
I only had the pleasure of meeting Bob once but it was an inspiration. He spoke of how music played a major part in his children’s lives and how proud he was of his granddaughter. My deepest condolences to all of Bob’s family and particularly to Jamie. God has welcomed him home.
Bobby T will be missed by us all. He was our Mr Fix-it, Go-to kinda guy and enjoyed helping out where he could, esp. with the sound systems in the hall and church. I will miss his smiles and winks, having him in the choir with his great tenor voice and at meetings where he always handled the repair and troubleshooting issues. The only consolation is that he is now with his beloved ‘Toots” in heaven.
Harry and Joan Dunnington

The community of Greenfield will never be the same without Bob. He was one of the first to welcome us when we moved here. Bob always had a smile and a hug for me, his gentle spirit will be missed. I am sad for his family and the community, but I am happy for him as he is with the his Freda, but even more importantly he is with his Lord and in peace. Thank you Bob for being a part of my life.

You were so fortunate to have had such a wonderful father, grandfather and father-in-law. Bob will be missed in the community of Greenfield. He was an ambitious volunteer and his hard work will leave a legacy which will never be forgotten. We will miss his smile and friendly greeting at church and his presence in the sound booth. His talents will certainly be missed during the performances in the community as everyone knew Bob would be there to help with the sound system.

Sorry to hear of the passing of your father , Jennifer. I don’t know your brothers as well as I feel I do you , but our condolences to your whole family.
Brian reads the paper every morning and noted the obit today. He remembers Jeff and Jaime. I know you lost your mom only 2-3 years ago and that was difficult . Our hearts go out to you at this time knowing it helps little , but is a help worth doing.
Not knowing the details , we hope from your Dad’s point of view, it is a blessing and an end to suffering more here .

Jeff, I’m so sorry to hear of the passing of your father. It’s been a long time since we were all together back in Spryfield as kids but I still remember your dad and how interesting and friendly a person he was.
So sorry to hear of your Dad’s passing . He was a very welcoming and cheerful sight each summer we arrived in Greenfield for cottage time and visited the church . His kindness was more than anyone could have asked for, each time our son sang or preached at the church making sure sound was always just right and making us feel so welcome anytime we saw him whether at church , or at the suppers . He wil be dearly missed.

We are saddened to hear of Bob’s passing…he was a true gentleman and a proud member of the Greenfield community. He spread this pride across several organizations in the area including our music boot camp where he tirelessly offered his talents and knowledge for the past 7 years. I will greatly miss sharing stories of audio mishaps and learning from his well qualified counsel. To so many, his legacy will be that of a simply excellent and neighbourly man, who got involved and helped out whenever called upon or saw a need. May his family and friends find peace and comfort in the lifetime of memories he shared with you all. God Bless you Bob. Rest in Peace.

Dorothy and Bill Grant
Both of us were truly upset to learn of Bob’s death. In my case, I had a long “chat” with him at the CBC Christmas lunch and although he told me about his serious health issues, candidly, I still believed we would meet again in 2015. Alas, this will never be but we will never forget what wonderful man he was and how much he was respected by every one who knew him and liked him so very much!
Bill and Dorothy Grant
Gwenn & Bill Oakes
Deepest sympathy to the Theakston family on Bob’s passing. Greenfield will never ‘sound’ the same again without Bob at the controls. His passing leaves an empty space in many lives and organizations in the community. He will be missed.

I know that I am one of many that will truly miss Bob as he was always there when I needed advice and was a true friend to all that needed him. His space in the choir loft and his space at the back of our church will always be a reminder of his tender presence. Much loved and much missed.

The Lord has welcomed another wonderful soul into His presents and although we may feel a little sorry for ourselves for Bob’s leaving us we know by faith that he has obtained the ultimate goal. Bob ran the good race and fought the good fight, now as Freda waited on the far side bank of Jordan, Bob has joined her forevermore. Sincere condolences to Jeff, Jamie, Jennifer, Andrew & Alexandra.
Doug & Bonnie
Sincere condolences to the whole family. I am going to miss Bob. When I joined the choir he took me under his wing and gave me some clues as to what all these dots with funny tails mean.
Dear Jennifer,Jamie and Jeff,
I was saddened to read of your Dad’s passing and am so sorry for your loss. My late Mom was your Dad’s aunt, being a half sister to your grandfather Gordon.Your Dad was always “Big Bob ” to my two brothers and me, as opposed to “Little Bob “his younger uncle. . Although he was older than us, by a few years ,your Dad allowed us to follow him around and patiently showed us the “highlightrs” of Greenfield, where we spent some time on summer vacations
I hope you three will stay close and look after each other, every parent’s wish after they are gone.
“Memories of the ones we have loved still cast their gentle glow to grace our days and light our paths wherever we may go.
Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of your father / grandfather.
Jeffrey, Jamie, Jennifer and Family

Very sorry to hear of Bob’s passing. My heartfelt sympathy to all the Theakston family. May God be with you. Bob and Frieda always made me feel part of their family. Many fond memories over many years from early days babysitting Jennifer and Jeffrey on Elm St, to sharing the pioneering days together with Bob at CBHT, to videotaping Jennifer’s wedding. I admired Bob’s expertise as sound engineer; he was truly one of the best. I will remember Bob in music — every time I hear Catherine MacKinnon’s rendition of “Farewell to Nova Scotia”. Bob’s expertise truly made her have the “Voice of an Angel”.
KARYN WINTERS THOMAS
Please accept our heartfelt sympathy in the loss of Bob,I knew he was ill when I had the pleasure of visiting with him during the summer before I returned home to New Brunswick, but I felt he would still be there when I visited again. Cheryl (Winters) Goulding
So very sorry for your loss. Living out of province for more than 30 years, I remember Bobby as a younger man when Dad (Mervyn Winters) made regular trips to Greenfield to visit Lora and families. I remember him as being very funny, kind, very funny and a compassionate man. He was a well respected man and will surely be missed by his community and family. Thoughts and prayers are with the family as you get through a difficult time. God bless.
I was saddened to read of Bob’s passing. I worked with him at CBC
Hfx for a number of years before transferring to Calgary.
He was very helpful in my early career. He visited me and Helen at
our home in Calgary when he was working with the Host Broadcast
group for the 88 Winter Olympics.
I also knew Prof Theakston at Dalhousie Univ during my time there.
Charalyn (Freeman) Kriz
I will miss Bob on my regular visits to Greenfield…….in the choir, in the soundbooth, keeping an eye on the fitness centre. He was always to be found lending a hand wherever he could, fixing whatever needed to be repaired. Recent years were not so kind to Bob, may he now rest in peace. My sincere condolences to his family and friends…..he will be missed.
