STEVENS – Warren James “Jimmy”, age 77, of Port Medway, Queens County, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 in the Halifax Infirmary.
Born in Lunenburg, Jimmy was a son of the late Warren and Inez Stevens.
Jimmy was a “jack of all trades” and a master of many. If there was something he couldn’t fix he wouldn’t let on, he would just figure it out. He was predominately a fisherman and a carpenter for most of his life. Jimmy was well known for his wood carvings and lifelike model boats. He was a master story teller and could often be found telling stories at the Port Grocer with his coffee club. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunting, fishing and four wheeling. Jimmy enjoyed boating and spent many summers camping and waterskiing at Ponhook Lake. He also appeared in many Hollywood movies shot on the South Shore as an extra. Jimmy had many nicknames, just one of them being Uber Jimmy for the fact that he always made sure everyone got home safe and sound after a night of fun. Jimmy had a great sense of humor and a warm loving heart and will be greatly missed by his loving family and many friends.
Jimmy is survived by his daughter, Shelly (Wade) Moore; sons Jamie (Celeste) and John (Heather), all of Port Medway. His grandchildren Brendan, Isaac, Gabriel, Jessica and Noah Stevens; sisters, Marjorie Wamboldt of Port Medway, Shirley (Willard) Weagle of Middlewood, Barbara Burns of Mill Village; brothers, Larry (Grace), Billy (Judy), Jerry (Virginia) all of Port Medway; special friend, Barbara Ann Parnell and family.
He was predeceased by a sister, Geraldine and a brother, Danny.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, NS. A scattering of Jimmy’s remains at sea will take place on Sunday, October 18, 2020 with Reverend Judy Cross officiating , leaving the Port Medway wharf at 1:00 p.m. A reception will be held at the Port Grocer following their return (please bring your own lawn chair). No flowers by request, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. Online condolences may be made to www.chandlersfuneral.com

Fond memories of Jim, and his fishing days out of Voglers Cove. I always enjoyed settling Jims fishing through Newells, and he loved the rosebuds that Rosemary always had on My desk. He even gave me a small halibut for staying overtime to settle his boat. He was full of it, and will be missed by so many. RIP Jim !

Uncle Jimmy could always be counted on for good laugh. A tease extraordinaire! A self proclaimed Chick Magnet, who was confident in Pink! He would be ribbing us all right now for being so sad, and mad that we are having a gathering in his honour without his presence. He loved nothing more than being part of the crowd and he had a large crowd that surrounded him. My son David this morning said of his Great Uncle Jimmy… “I think I prefer to think of him as gone off on an adventure for awhile, the other is too permanent.” I feel the same. Well this is for sure an adventure and I am sure he has already got God’s ear and he’ll have plenty to say. He will already be part of the gatherings and catching up and telling everyone the news. He will live on in all of us through our memories. My love and support for my cousins and my Aunt and Uncles, and Barbara-Ann.
Anna-Stell Vaughn
We were saddened and shocked to hear of Jimmy’s passing. He will be fondly remembered by everyone he knew, and will bring a smile when we recall precious memories of him. Sending our heartfelt sympathy to all.
Sincerely, Anna-Stell and Jordan

Dear Family, extended family and friends of Jimmy, we are shocked and heartbroken by this sad loss. I don’t remember a time when I didn’t know Jimmy and his family, I spent most of my time in Port with the Stevens family as kid with Barb and Marjorie (my second mom) and the uncles who teased us non-stop. I love this family. We can’t believe he is no longer going to tease us, hug us, crack a joke and tell stories. He will be doing that in another place and we miss him so much it hurts to the core. Jimmy loved us all, and we loved him right back. Heartfelt condolences going out to all and prayers for strength going forward. <3 <3 <3
Lydia Stevens
My sincere condolences to the family. His presence will be missed by the Port Medway community and all who knew him. I always enjoyed my scallop diving trips to Port Medway where I would often run into Jimmy. Less than two weeks ago I was flipping through an old photo album with him. He showed me pictures of him and his old speed boat going so fast it looked like it was about to take flight. He clearly enjoyed life, adventure, and speed! I’ll miss my wharf and cafe chats with Jimmy. Sending my thoughts and love to the family.

From my family to yours, we were so saddened to hear about Jimmy. Our hearts go out to you all. Jimmy easily succeeded in making a lasting impression on my Dad, myself (he was an older first cousin whom I looked up to greatly) and also my two grown children who very much enjoyed his company and reveled in his stories. So grateful that we were able to share some time together at the wharf 2 weeks ago. Going to Port Medway will be forever changed without Jimmy’s presence.

Jaimie, Shelly and John, and Aunt Barbara Ann sending my condolences to all of you in the passing of your father and Partner. Jimmy will never be gone as long as we remember him when we hear a funny story or see a speedboat going fast on the water. I am glad I got to see him a few weeks ago and got a hug. He surely is going to be missed especially the times out to Ponhook Lake and the yellow speedboat that we as kids would say Faster Jimmy and he would make that speedboat stand up. RIP Jimmy until we see each other again.

To Jimmy’s family and Barbara-Ann, my heart goes out to each of you! I can only imagine the sadness you must feel. Some good-byes should not happen until far far in the future. But when they happen prematurely, there is this even deeper sense of loss. Jimmy has been such a wonderful, lighthearted, and at times thought-provoking presence. It was impossible to walk away from Jimmy’s banter without having laughed out loud at least once. A happy laugh that lingered on. What a gift! It will take a long time to get used to a world without him in it. Warm hugs!

“May tender memories soften your grief,
May fond recollection bring you relief,
And may you find comfort and peace in the thought
Of the joy that knowing your loved one brought…
For time and space can never divide
Or keep your loved one from your side.
When memory paints in colors true,
the happy hours that belonged to you.”
