SPRAGUE- Pauline Augusta, 99, of Liverpool, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 20th, 2018, at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, surrounded by the love of her two children and their spouses.
Pauline was born on Cape Negro Island, she was a daughter of the late Harold and Evelyn (Doane) Newell.
Pauline lived a long and remarkably healthy life, free of many of the chronic ailments that plague the elderly. She eagerly “studied” the newspaper from cover to cover every day and then checked back through it again to be sure she did not miss anything. She walked to town daily until her 90’s and was even known to babysit the great grandchildren when called upon. Pauline lived in her own home until her 96th year. She excelled at making fishcakes and stew. Our memory banks are full from the lifetime of this tiny, yet strong, lady. Our hearts always felt her love for her family and she will be missed.
She is survived by her son Phillip (Bonnie) and daughter Jane (Esmar) Hansen, both of Liverpool, grandchildren Toby (Lori) of Beach Meadows, Jody (Maime) Colp of Lumberton, North Carolina, Shannon Sprague and Candace Sprague-Whynot (Brad), both of Liverpool, Melanie (Neil) Raymond of Miramichi, NB. Also 13 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild as well as her siblings Violet Eisnor, Jackie Newell and David Newell.
Pauline was predeceased by her loving husband, Cyril Wesley Sprague in 1970 and siblings Lindsey, Clifford, Albert, Kenneth, Lloyd, Beatrice, Ethel, Marie, Ena, Evelyn and Muriel. Half brother Foreman and son-in-law Paris Colp.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2018, from 7 until 9 p.m. and funeral service will be held Friday, August 24, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. both in Chandlers’ Funeral Chapel, Liverpool. Reverend Steven Hopper officiating. Reception to follow service. Burial will be in the Liverpool United Baptist Church Cemetery. Aunt Pauline was a truly remarkable lady. Her interest in daily activities and mobility until recently clearly indicates that she could surprise us all by taking a walk to town when the urge arose. Pauline loved to share her memories, and there were many to share. Our thoughts are with you during this very difficult time.
My sincere sympathy on the passing of Pauline. She was very kind to me, although I didn’t know her well I will always have very good thoughts of her.

growing up in beach meadows next door to the Colp family with toby and jody..i considered their family my family..some of my best childhood memories are with them..this is how i came to know pauline..a petite woman with a big smile..i can remember us visiting her numerous times in her home in town…as well as her visiting in the meadows….rest in peace pauline…love to the family…
My sincere condolences on the loss this wonderful lady. I watched her, humbly from my back deck, go about her daily chores; clothes on the line/off the line, interacting with neighbors and family members who dropped by, and see her walking back and forth to town; a woman nearly twice my age and able to accomplish almost twice as much. She amazed me. I knew there would be a day I would regret not taking the time to go and sit with her; if for nothing else than to try to convince her to give me her prized recipes for fish cakes and stew. Having lost both my parents at an early age, you are so blessed to have had her for the years that you did. My thoughts are with you all.
I am so glad the family was blessed with a peaceful death for the matriarch of the family, I know how much she meant to everyone. It is never easy. Thinking of everyone during this time. Lots of wonder memories to cherish. Leanne & Cory

My first memories of her are, of course, from many many years ago when we lived on opposite ends of the house on Payzant Street. Despite Pauline’s age her passing still surprised me. She appeared so much younger to me. About 5 years ago while a storm was still blustering after dumping a lot of snow I looked out my window to see if I dare tackle the drifts yet. Through the blustering haze I could just make out Pauline shovelling out her walkway from her back door to the yet unplowed street. I watched with amazement for awhile then went back to my comfy chair. Remarkable lady !

We used to watch the soap box derby races near her home when I was a wee kid. I visited her with my Mom and she came to see my Dad and family when my Mom passed.
