The family of Jean Audrey Somes regret to announce her passing on February 26, 2011. Her faith in the Bible’s promise of a resurrection to everlasting life on a Paradise earth was simply a culmination of a life lived with complete reliance on our Creator and motivated by her love for Him. It is what gave her the strength and courage to meet this final challenge with a dignity and peace we can all only dream to ever achieve. She knew that her unwavering integrity offered up a taunting reply to the true instigator of all life’s woes, Satan the Devil, and served as a vindication to her God, Jehovah. We, her mourning family, are comforted in knowing that she is safe in His memory.
Jean was born June 29, 1936 in Yarmouth to Marsden Prince and Grace Helene (Frost) Penney. On November 16, 1956 she married Bernard James Somes in Kentville. His military career took them all over Canada and to Germany. They later divorced.
She is survived by her children, Glenna and husband Edgar (her children Micah Somes, Nathaniel and Naaman Barton, Naaman’s wife Krista), Marina (her children Bethany, Daniel and Jonathan Cronk), Rod and wife Diane, Gregg and wife Julie (his children Sarah and Julian Somes, great- grandchildren Tytan Barton, Jasmine Roy and Aftyn Cronk. Jean is also survived by siblings George MacGillivray and Zelda (Hicks) Brannen and husband Henry and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her father, who was lost at sea in April 1940, mother in July 2005, brother John MacGillivray and grandparents George and Armina (Morton) Frost and Henry and Penelope (Bower) Penney.
Besides her family, she will be sadly missed by her close friends of over 30 years, Cora Heath and John Sandever and literally hundreds of others whose lives she touched and enhanced over many years. She was truly an amazing person who made every effort to overcome the past and to offer everyone she came into contact with the best she had –and it was wonderful.
Arrangements are under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. Private interment will take place in the spring. A memorial will be held in the Liverpool Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at a date not yet determined. Online condolences may be submitted to www.chandlersfuneral.com

I was very close with my mother, she was my best friend, I will miss her dearly.
Thinking of all of you whose lives were touched by my mother Jean. Her love for her all of her children was unwaivering. Her love for her family and friends unbreakable. Her love for her brother Michael MacGillivary was also in her thoughts and prayers for him to find peace in Jehovah. Her love for Jehovah helped her endure her decades of suffering with a smile on her face and a joke on her tongue.
My greatest condolences to my siblings Glenna, Marina and Roderick, and our dear friend Cora.
As I reflect on 1Cor, 1: 3-7- Jehovah truly is the God of all comfort.
Her Memorial will be held at the Liverpool Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness April 2nd 2011 at 2:30 pm.
