SMITH, Karen Joan – 55, Brooklyn passed away on May 5, 2021 after a long brave battle with cancer.
Born in Liverpool on September 29, 1965, she was the daughter of Lillian (Roy) and the late John Oickle.
She was a 1983 graduate of Liverpool Regional High School and a 1987 graduate of Mount St. Vincent University. Besides her family, Karen’s main passion was travel and her many trips provided much enjoyment and life long memories.
She is survived by Clayton, her husband of 22 years and stepchildren Jennifer (Ryan Neilson) Milton and Darren, Halifax. She is also survived by her mother Lillian (Keith Wyer) Greenfield, her brother David Oickle from Greenfield, her sister-in-law Natalie McMaster from Milton; nephew Keegan and niece Norah as well as other extended family members.
The family would like to thank Dr. Blackadar, Dr. Gowan, nurses and support people at Queens General Hospital, the Oncology Team at South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater, Dr. Jeyakumar at the Oncology Clinic in Halifax for the excellent care received during Karen’s illness. Also to her many friends who provided Karen and the family with support during her illness. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date. Family flowers only, donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society or charity of choice.
