Simpson – Ewart Allan “Joe”, age 74, of Port Medway, Queens County, passed away peacefully in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, on Friday, October 28, 2022, after a very short illness.
Born in Orangeville, Ontario, Joe was a son of the late Allan and Merle (Avison) Simpson.
Joe worked at a couple of jobs before he found the job he loved, as owner/operator of his own truck, doing runs through the USA and parts of Canada. He did this until he retired in 2002 and moved to Nova Scotia.
In his younger days Joe was a hockey player, but in later years playing crib and NASCAR were his passions.
Joe and his wife Sandi spent winters traveling in the southern USA for a number of years, but also traveled across Canada and the USA extensively.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Sandi; sister in law, Debra (Allan) Cameron of Ontario, nephews, Scott and Steven; many long time friends.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, N.S. At Joe’s request, there will be no funeral service at this time. No flowers by request, donations may be made to the Queens County SPCA or to Elder Dog, Lunenburg. To share memories or condolences, please visit www.chandlersfuneral.com

What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch.
We may not understand why you left this earth so soon, or why you left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that you died, but that you lived.
And that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget.

Oh Sandi, we feel so sad. We are grateful for Joe’s kindness and friendship and had assumed we would be sharing good times for many more years. The way he wore bell-bottoms and platform shoes for disco night said a lot about what a great sport he was. It is very hard to imagine future get-togethers without Joe’s smile and humour.

Sandi, we like everyone else were shocked and saddened to hear of Joe’s sudden passing. He and Ed go way back to when they were growing up in Orangeville. We still have a picture of them on the same hockey team. It looks like they were about 10 years old. He will be missed by many “old” friends but most of all by you. Our thoughts are with you at this difficult time.
Love, Ed and Nancy

Brian and Cathie Mourre
Sandi,
Brian sure enjoyed his random talks with Joe if he happened to catch him on one of his bicycle rides. He said the best thing about Joe was that big smile and the fact that he always listened when someone was talking to him. We often laugh about that Port Grocer New Years party… you know the one with the red platform shoes and the bell bottoms. Joe was best dressed for that. He was a lovely person, and he will be missed by many.
We are hoping you find some comfort knowing we are all thinking of you and sad for the loss of Joe..
Cathie and Brian.

Hi Sandi,
It was such a shock to hear of Joe’s passing. He and I had many good games together at Vogler’s Cove and the Legion in Liverpool. He loved his card games,(especially if we won) and he was such good company to be with. He was very proud of your goodies that you would make for the Vogler’s Cove games, Thinking of Jop always brings a smile to my face. My heart goes out to you. 52 years is such a long time to be with someone. Take care of yourself.

Laverne -Adrie Kirkness, Orangeville
Sandi: The number of condolence messages here is indicative of the number of Joe’s friends and is no doubt, comforting for you. Bingo and Cribbage activities will not be quite the same in Port Medway. Our recent visit from Orangeville Ontario was most enjoyable and we now feel we should have stayed longer to reminisce more about high school days back in the mid ’60s at ODSS. I will say that Joe contributed to my self-confidence in Grade 12 when he not only motivated me to run for Student Council President, but the very next day had made a huge “VOTE FOR Laverne” sign and mounted it on the GYMN wall. He quickly became the unofficial campaign manager! Thank you, Joe. Your passing is way too soon.

Dear Sandi,
there are people who seem so alive in their own way that, when they are gone, they leave sometimes a quiet, but always an empty space behind. Joe feels like such a person to me.
I am thinking of you and how you must miss him. We all do.
A warm heart-to-heart hug! Sibylle
