Our condolences to Sue and Family. Dave was a wonderful guy and had a great sense of humour. He was a gifted baseball pitcher when he was young and threw extremely hard. He was the heart and soul of our team. I remember our entire ball team going to Halifax to visit him after his motorcycle accident. Despite his disability: I remember him scaling the stairs at LRHS up and down) in his wheelchair with relative ease. He later excelled in several other sports as well. He will be missed.
Rest In Peace

I met David in Grade 9 at LRHS in 1962/63 as we were in the same class. As an inshore fisherman’s son, come November, we didn’t see him again until January. He was a talented athlete and took everything in stride. I think it was summer of ’66, prior to his motorcycle accident when he was the star pitcher for our Liverpool baseball team that I drove several of the players to a game in Mahone Bay and I member our catcher, David Rideout if I recall correctly, laughing that about half-way through the game, one of the Mahone Bay players said to him, “give me a break will ya, tell me what he’s going to throw”. David lead the team to a romp that day. Not sure that I ever saw David again after that, but I was pleased to hear that he continued in sports and continued in school and worked at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography in the lab I believe. Given that we have the odd Oceanographer here who also worked at Bedford, I’ve inquired if they recalled David and one did very positively. Wish that I’d had a chance to catch up again over the years but pleased to hear that he had a beneficial career and a family who I hope are coping well with his passing.
