ROY, Barry Francis – It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our cherished son, father, husband, brother and uncle, Barry Roy on March 24, 2017.
Barry was a humble intellectual with a sense of humour that could bring light to any situation. In the immediate hours after his passing, we tried to make light by reminiscing on how he would have reacted to the events that had just occurred bringing comfort and laughter through the tears. Memories of his warm personality will be a great help in the many difficult days, months and years to come. Barry was happily married to the love of his life, Tonia for the past 7 years. They shared a happy country life with their cherished pets in Shubenacadie, N.S. Barry took great pride in being a loving father to his son, Jordan and his stepson Craig. He was always there to provide advice, guidance and support. Not only was he a great father to Jordan, he was a best friend, one that will be irreplaceable and forever missed. Barry was a notable father figure to his cousin, Cathy’s three children; Cory, Brad and Stephanie Arthurs. He was the family’s go-to handyman, always working to find innovative solutions to any challenge he faced. He spent his time enjoying many creative hobbies such as painting, drawing, singing and song writing as well as researching to keep up on the latest technological trends.
He is survived by his mother Elizabeth Roy, wife Tonia Roy, son Jordan Roy, stepson Craig Lee, brother Steven, sisters Sherine and Rhonda as well as his beloved nieces and nephews Brian, Ashley, Michael and Hailey.
Barry was predeceased by his father, Maxwell Roy and his beloved cousin, Cathy Connolly.
A service will be held on Friday, March 31 at 11:00 AM at the Greenfield United Baptist Church in Greenfield, Queens County, N.S. Pastor Royce Getson officiating. Reception to follow. A private family committal will take place at a later time in Pinerest Cemetery, Greenfield. Family flowers only, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association. Condolences for the family of “Roy; Barry Francis”

Condolence from Gilbert Matheson on March 27th, 2017 2:54 pm

It is with a sad heart to hear of Barry’s passing on March 24, 2017. I did not know him personally but met him online about 7 years ago; where we became friends on a game we both enjoyed playing. He was joined by his wife Tonia in the game. We had many evening talking and laughing. He will be greatly missed by me and those who knew him. He was always ready to joke or listen to a problem if you had one. My sincere sympathy goes out to his Wife Tonia and to all his family. My thought and prayers go out to you all. He is with our Lord now and no longer in pain. Gilbert Matheson (aka Oldman-of-Rs)

Condolence from Brian Jewers on March 27th, 2017 8:48 pm

I was very saddened today by hearing of Barry’s sudden passing. My heart goes out to all his family as they are in my thoughts and prayers. It’s been quite a long time since I’ve seen Barry but I always wondered how he was doing. He and I attended the same college and shared all the same classes. We’d always help each other with our subjects although I think he helped me the most! He was that kind of a friend and person. After college, we went off in different directions to pursue our career goals and unfortunately never kept in touch. After that, my daughter went to school with his son Jordan and whenever Jordan came over to visit, I’d always ask him how his father was doing. Like his father, he always had that big smile when I talked with him. Looking back, I wish I would have tracked Barry down before now but God has called him early for some greater reason. I’m sure he will continue from Heaven to be there for family, loved ones and friends as he always has. He will always be just a prayer away but greatly missed by all. God bless Barry and all of his family and friends in this time and future.

Condolence from April Keizer on March 30th, 2017 10:27 am

My deepest condolences are being sent to Jordan and Tonia, as well as Betty, Steven, Sherine, Rhonda and everyone else in the Roy family. Barry will be missed by so many. He was such a great Father, Son, Brother, Uncle, and friend. Barry was our son’s “go to” for everything. He was always there to support Jordan and give him an honest opinion. They are so much alike, not just in looks, but also in personality, their likes and dislikes, but above all else, they supported and loved each other. I, myself, will miss Barry as I always knew I could talk to him about anything Jordan was going through. Our relationship with our son was never a competition. We supported each other and made our decisions based on what was best for him. I will miss just knowing he is there for Jordan but I will do my best to be both Mom and Dad now for our son and we will keep Barry’s memory alive always. May God give strength and comfort to all suffering from this loss and may the wonderful memories of Barry keep him alive forever in the heart’s of those who loved and cared for him most. RIP Barry
