Roberts, Mark Todd, age 55, passed away suddenly on September 20, 2019 while working in Sheet Harbour, Nova Scotia.
Born in Scarborough, Ontario, but raised in Liverpool, NS, he was the son of Donna and the late Roy Roberts.
Mark found his dream job when he joined the Nova Scotia Salmon Association in the fall of 2017 where he worked as a fisheries technician. He was deeply committed to his job and he took great pride in contributing to the restoration of rivers and streams. His co-workers enjoyed the time with Mark because of his always happy attitude and the endless supply of songs he would sing for the crew. Mark was also committed to learning and enthusiastically completed certification to his career, obtaining his university degree in Bachelor of Engineering Technology, Environmental Studies from the Cape Breton University. Mark has always been passionate about the outdoors. He loved to camp and participate in the community gardens in Liverpool and Sheet Harbour. He lived in Sheet Harbour for only a short time but had made friends quickly and was well liked by the community. He was active in the community garden and a member of the Eastern Shore Wildlife Association. Prior to this, Mark’s love of reading led him to work in the field of journalism. He earned a Diploma in Journalism from Holland College and worked as a reporter for the Halifax Chronicle Herald, Bridgewater Bulletin and was the editor for the Chester Clipper, the Advance and the Shelburne Coast Guard. He had freelance work published in many community and daily newspapers.
Mark is survived by his mother, Donna, son, Jacob, daughter, Hannah, sisters, Nancy and Tracy, brother-in-law David, nephew Adam and niece Sarah.
He was predeceased by his father, Roy.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. Donations in Mark’s memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Salmon Association. A memorial reception has been planned for Thursday, September 26, 2019, 6:30 pm to 9:00 p.m. at the Liverpool Lions Club, 128 Gorham Street, Liverpool, Nova Scotia.

I had the privilege of getting to know Mark during his time here in Sheet Harbour while working on the West River. I always helped him out on the weekends when needed. We talked often relaying information between one another on a daily basis. He would fill me in about work that was taking place on the river and I would let him know where I had seen salmon while out fishing. My 5 year old son, Jarrett would often tag along with Mark and I on the weekends checking for salmon at the counting fence. Jarrett always referred to him as “Crazy Mark” because of the things Mark would say and do to make him laugh. Mark took great pride in his work and his position as a technician on the river. We always shared stories and laughs which led to a great friendship. My condolences go out to Mark’s family and friends on such a tragic loss. He will never be forgotten.

As a kid, as an adult, he was always pleasant and just nice to have around. We will remember Mark with great fondness and a smile. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, especially his children who he adored.

Shocked and very sadden at Mark’s sudden passing. Mark had a great attitude and enthusiasm for our conservation work on the West River and he made a meaningful contribution. He will be missed.

Marks laugh and grin was contagious, almost as much as his passion for everything he jumped into. Reaching back over some 25 years, in various capacities, I always enjoyed chatting with him. During his training for the career he’d always wanted, he tackled a couple projects with me, I’ll treasure those the most as they tied in so much of what he loved.
Shocked and saddened to read of his passing, far too soon.
Sheila
My heart goes out to all the family .please find comfort in each other as this difficult time passes. My prayers for you all .hugs

I only just learned of Marks passing today and I am shocked and saddened of this news. Mark was my closest friend at Acadia where we met in our first year there. We shared many good times there along with his friends from Liverpool. I always reflect on these good times to this day. Mark also introduced me to my future wife which I will never forget. Following university, I was lucky enough to spend time with Mark in Charlottetown while he was attending Holland College and I was working. Unfortunately, with the passing of time and distance, we lost touch.
To his family, please accept my sincere condolences. Mark will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Bill Pasley
I lost touch with Mark 30 years ago but always remembered him as a good man and friend. He borrowed a pair of my shorts one summer 30+ years ago as we were going out that night in Halifax and we shared a joke about them the next day when we met up for lunch. I miss his laugh, smile and overall goodness that emanated from him. My deepest sympathies and condolences to his family and friends on his sudden passing. He will be missed.
