Condolence from Judi Cleveland on March 10th, 2015 1:33 am

Pat and Peter,
I was shocked and saddened to have just learned that Jill has passed away and I want to express my deepest condolences to you. I will always remember her friendship and the special times we had together as teenagers at your house and mine. There were several of us girls who shared so much in those days…the laughs, the dancing in our basement, the sleepovers, the crushes we worked through, and those magical summer evenings on the swing chair. They were great times, innocent times, and will be treasured. I am thankful to have shared them with Jill and that she was shared with me. She will stay in my heart and memory.
May it be of comfort to know my thoughts and sympathy are with you at this sad time.
Judi

Condolence from Pat Patterson on March 10th, 2015 6:55 am

Pat and Peter, I was so sad to hear that Gillian had passed away. We were good friends when we were young and going to school. Although we did share some time together in recent years as well, we lost touch again and only saw each other at the bank or the grocery store. I was aware that she was ill, but didn’t realize how serious it was.
Please accept my condolences, and pass my thoughts along to your boys and to Paul and his family as well.
Pat (Rafuse) Patterson

Condolence from Kathryn Killam on March 10th, 2015 9:19 am

I was surprised and saddened to hear news of this. I hadn’t seen Jill for a long time. She used to sit my Tom, a mixed breed character that she was very fond of. He loved going there and I loved knowing he was not only safe, but extremely well cared for.

Jill was a smart, quick witted woman with a dry sense of humor and a rich history full of variety and adventure. I am so sorry to hear that she has passed.

Condolence from Eleanore Eddy on March 10th, 2015 6:47 pm

I am so shocked to read of Jill’s passing in today’s paper. Jill and I were very close for a number of years when she lived outside of Chester, in fact, it was my late husband who sold her the land and built her house for her. We lost contact after I moved to Halifax but I still have fond memories of our years together. Jill was a kind, thoughtful person who even after 30 years still makes me smile at the things she did. My condolences to you and your family, she will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Condolence from Philip and Holly Smith on March 10th, 2015 11:27 pm

As neighbors of Gillian for many years, we would like to convey our deepest sympathies to her family. She was such an intelligent, kind and personable woman-a pleasure to know. Her great love of animals, especially for dogs, will remain our best memory of her, and when we walk by the home she so enjoyed, as did all Gillian’s canine friends, we will smile.

Condolence from Judy Vey on March 11th, 2015 9:01 am

Dear Pat. I was saddened to read of Jill’s passing. Although I have not seen Jill for a long time, I have fond memories of our friendship when we were growing up. Driving past your former home on Waterloo today I thought of her and the good times we shared.

Condolence from Keith Hazeldine on March 12th, 2015 8:27 pm

Pat and Peter, my most sincere condolences to you. I have such great memories of Gillian from high school, so many years ago. She was a very special girl in those formative years. I lost touch with Gillian, but I never forgot her. So sorry that her life has ended so early.

Condolence from Randi Dickie on March 17th, 2015 7:58 pm

Dear Pat and family,
I am so sorry to hear about Jill. I remember her well in our young days at school and the picture shown of her at that time is beautiful. With her return to the area I had occasion to meet her. An interest we shared was gardening and I recall my visit to the gardens at Hunts Point. Following the passing of your mother, who I always respected and admired as one of my greatest teachers, Jill gave me a perennial plant in her memory. To this day, many years later if I walk by this plant I think of your Mom and now this will also hold a special memory of Jilll
With sincere sympathy
Randi

Condolence from Hilary Coupland (nee Dawkins) on March 18th, 2015 3:02 pm

Dear Pat,
I never met Jill, and am so sorry I didn’t. You and she are my first cousins, as you may know. I met you mom, Betty, at her home in Hunts Point in 1989, as my family was passing through Nova Scotia, on our way to England. She was my mother Lorna’s younger sister. I was amazed at how much Betty resembled my mum, with many of the same mannerisms – even though they hadn’t seen each other in years! Perhaps you and Jill share them too.

I am so sorry for your loss. If you and your husband are ever out West, please be in touch. I would love to meet a cousin! If you come to Victoria, you will have a place to stay. Both my brothers, Roland and Russell, live here too.
Big hug from your cousin,
Hilary

Condolence from Donnie Scott on March 21st, 2015 6:49 pm

Dear Pat;
Rick told me of Jill passing and it was quite a surprise. She possessed a wonderful vibrancy and spirit during our school years and it is comforting to hear stories from her old neighbours like Judi Cleveland, Judy Vey and Sherry Wigglesworth. I can still see her running around the school and whether it was playing basketball or putting the yearbook together, she was engaged. And yes it is hard not to mention her Mom, Mrs. Roach, probably the best math teacher we ever had and I still recall some of the principles she drilled into us in Civics, which happily have stayed with me and served me well.
I hope she enjoyed her life because she certainly helped make others lives better.

Condolence from Russell Dawkins on March 22nd, 2015 5:25 pm

Condolences to you, Pat. Even though I last met you, Gillian and your mother as long ago as 1967 or 68, I still remember the visit fondly. I have an unfinished email to Gillian dated March 2013.
I had no idea she was suffering or I would have hurried up and sent it, unfinished.
Best wishes to you and Peter at this time.
Russell

Condolence from Wayne Durling on December 14th, 2015 12:22 pm

A good friend of Jill during her High School years. I can remember the many dances at that High School when I spent most of the time dancing with her, the dances in Judy Cleveland’s basement and the swinging chair in Judy’s backyard. Great memories !!
