RHYNO – Joan M., 82, of Liverpool, Queens County, passed away peacefully in Queens General Hospital, on Friday, January 24, 2020.
Born in Liverpool, Joan was a daughter of the late Florence (Gerhardt) Dexter.
Joan did patient care at the former Fahie’s Nursing home, was a live in nanny for a time and did housekeeping for many local families. She enjoyed going for drives but was happiest spending time surrounded by her family. She will be lovingly remembered as a kind, loving and gentle lady, always willing to listen and provide her polite opinion. She was never one to judge and appreciated every little thing.
Surviving are her daughter Donna (Kevin) Dowling of Eagle Head; her sons Barry (Sandy) Cross of East Berlin and Wayne Cross (Lana Johnston) of Pasadena, NL. Her grandsons Kelsey Cross (Micaela Ford) and Tristen Cross and her step grand daughter Catherine Harty. Her half sister Judy (Lanny) Francis of Liverpool and her half brothers Douglas (Donna) Dexter and Brian (Vicki) Dexter, both of Beach Meadows.
Besides her mother, Joan was predeceased by her step father Sanford Dexter, her first husband Raymond Cross, her second husband Harley Rhyno and her half sister Carolyn Huskins.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 from 7 until 9 p.m. in Chandlers’ Funeral Chapel, Liverpool where prayers will be said at 8:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. in St. John’s Anglican Cemetery, West Berlin. Reverend Judy Cross officiating. Family flowers only, donations may be made to Hillsview Acres, Middlefield, Queens Manor, Liverpool or a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made to www.chandlersfuneral.com
A special thank you to Drs. Tim Woodford and Garry Morash as well as the staff of Hillsview Acres, Queens Manor and Queens General Hospital for their excellent, compassionate and professional care shown to Joan.
