Barbara Dureen (Verge) Randall was taken from her loved ones on December 24, 2021, at Hillside Pines Nursing Home for Special Care, Bridgewater, surrounded by family.
Barb was born in Halifax on September 28, 1932, to Roy and Mabel Verge.
Barb is survived by her children Lori (Paul) Whynot, Robert (Lois), Debra (Stephen) Graham and Diane Hatt. She is also survived by her grandchildren Patrick and Jamie Whynot, Allison and Melissa Randall, Zavin (Abby) Graham, and Randi Hatt. Barb also had 3 great grand-children; Nyah, Rory, and Rylee, along with niece Barbara (Don) Jerrett and many other nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, Barb was pre-deceased by her adoring husband Graham and her brother Roy.
Barb grew up on Cedar Street in Halifax. She was a graduate of Mount Saint Vincent. Barb and Graham moved to Liverpool from Halifax on their wedding day in 1956 where they raised their family on William Street.
Barb was a very caring Mother. She was asked one day, “Who is your favorite child?” She answered, “Whoever needs me the most at the time.” She always put her family first! She was a good cook and even better baker. Barb took sewing classes in the early 70’s. She made many items of clothing for her family. She also enjoyed making crafts; this included Christmas decorations. Many of these are still being used today in many homes while celebrating the holidays.
Barb was a member of an eight-person bridge club for many years. She was very interested in genealogy and traced her family and Graham’s family back many generations. She was also very involved in her church, being a member of the Catholic Women’s League for many years at St. Gregory’s Church in Liverpool.
Mom did quite a bit of travelling with Dad once they had retired. They took a train through the Rocky Mountains and made road trips throughout eastern Canada and the north-eastern United States. They also traveled to Europe where they visited England, France, Italy, and Switzerland.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. Funeral mass will be held Friday, September 16, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. in St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, Liverpool, NS. Father Keith Billard officiating. Burial will be in St. Gregory’s Catholic Cemetery, College Street, Liverpool. Online condolences may be made to: www.chandlersfuneral.com.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hillside Pines to be used for seasonal decorations for the residents throughout the year. Mom really enjoyed the decorating for each season done by the staff.
We wish to express our continued immense gratitude to all the staff on Mom’s wing at Hillside for the same exceptional care and loving compassion as they had also given to our Dad during his time there. They have made her remaining time with us memorable.

My sincere condolences are sent to you on the loss of your dear mom. She was like a second mom to me during the two years I spent in Liverpool teaching at the old Junior High School. All of you became my second family. Over the years I always sent a card to Barb and Graham at Christmas. The last several years I’ve connected with Lori on Facebook and was able to get updates about your parents. My prayers and hugs go out to everyone. Please know that you are in my thoughts.
