Ramey; Irvin Roosevelt – It is with great sadness that we, the family of Irvin Roosevelt Ramey, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great – grandfather, announce his passing on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at the age of 99 years. Irvin passed away peacefully at Harbourview Haven Nursing Home in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia surrounded by his loving wife Geraldine and his family.
Born in Buckfield, Queens County, he was the son of the late Hastings and Lillian (Hartlen) Ramey. He was the last surviving member of his family.
In his early years he was a woodsman, farmer, transport truck driver and then worked at Bowater Mersey Paper Company for 32 years, retiring in 1988. After retiring he still loved to cut logs and wood. He also enjoyed many hobbies, especially fiddling and square dancing. He loved playing his fiddle alongside his wife on keyboard at nursing homes. He was a member of the Lunenburg County Fiddlers Club. He also loved to bowl, play golf and salmon fish. He enjoyed many card games and crokinole games with family and friends. Irvin was a devoted family man who always put his wife and family first, providing for them with hard work, love and pride. He was a faithful Christian, a member of Buckfield Baptist Church for many years and in later years joined the Bridgewater Baptist Church.
Irvin is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 74 years Geraldine (Joudrey); his daughters Gloria (Robert) Winship of New Minas; Debbie (Cyril) Mailman and Sharon (Avon) Croft both of Chelsea and son Reg of Halifax. 6 grandchildren Tanya Ramey of Bridgewater; Jeff (Rosella) Winship of Cole Harbour; Craig Mailman of New Germany; Deanna (Brent) Spindler of Starrs Point; Ryan (Nadine) Mailman and Cory (Sarah) Croft both of Auburndale. 8 great grandchildren Kiana Baron, Ethan and Liam Spindler, Lucas Winship, Peyton and Dylan Croft, Avery and Carson Mailman.
Besides his parents, Irvin was predeceased by his son Donald Irvin, brothers Milton and Gordon, sisters Muriel Freeman and Dena Ramey.
A Celebration of Irvin’s life will be held on Tuesday, June 20th, 2023 at the Bridgewater Baptist Church. Visitation will take place from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. with Funeral Service to follow at 2:00 p.m. followed by a reception in the Church foyer. Interment will take place in Pine Rest Cemetery, Greenfield, Queens County, Nova Scotia. Family flowers only. To Aunt Geraldine & family,
So sorry to hear of Uncle Irvin’s passing. He was a great uncle and husband and dad to all of you. Loved his jolly laugh and loved to hear him play his fiddle. He loved it and no trouble to tell how much he enjoyed playing it. Remember all the good times and years you’ve spent with him and all the good laughs you shared. I imagine he and my mom along with the rest of the family are sharing good times again. I pray God’s blessing upon all of you as you mourn his loss but he is in a much better place now with no aches or pains and enjoying our Lord’s fellowship. Take care and hope to see you all on Tues.
