Rafuse,

Rafuse, Basil W., 92, of Charleston, Queens County, passed away Friday, January 15th, 2010, in Queens General Hospital, Liverpool.

           Born in Charleston, he was a son of the late Sidney and Idella (Baker) Rafuse.

Basil worked most of his life at the Bowater Mersey Paper Company, retiring in 1981. He was a member of Zetland Lodge #49. Basil enjoyed salmon fishing and gardening.

He is survived by daughters Marie (Owen) Zwicker, of Vaughn, Susan Dean, of Liverpool, Sheila (Larry) Lowe, of Moranville, Alberta; son Reginald (Charlotte), of Charleston; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one great great grandson.

He was predeceased by his wife Enid; son Atwood; grandson Stacy; sisters Frances, Nora, Marvel, Elizabeth, Verna, Irene; brothers Gilbert, Freeman.

A Celebration of Basil’s Life will be held Thursday, January 21st, 2010, at 2:00 p.m., from Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. Reverend Jennifer Garbin officiating. Burial will be in the New Charleston Cemetery, Charleston. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Queens General Hospital Foundation.     I am so sorry to hear of Basil’s passing. I think of him fondly when Enid was in the Manor and he came for a visit. We always had a chat and he would tease me so. I know he will be surely missed.

    I remember Basil growing up in Charleston as a kind and quiet man and a friend to my father. I know he will be missed by his friends and neighbours. He was a good man. May all your memories be good ones that help you smile and I pray your hearts will be lifted by the knowledge he is with God. bless you all.

    Our deepest regrets on the passing of a true gentleman…I have many fond memories of Basil when I used to come to his home for TOPS with the rest of the family.     We are so very sorry for your loss . I have some really good memories of Uncle Basil & a few chuckles too. He was a gentleman in every sense of the word , but now knowing that he is definitely in a better place where we will all see him & Aunt Enid again is a comfort .
