Capt. Roy Payzant Sr. age 96 of Moose Harbour, made his final voyage on Friday July 13, 2018 from Queens Manor Nursing Home, Liverpool.
He was born in Liverpool to Bert and Jennie (Hiltz) Payzant on June 24, 1922 and resided in Liverpool all of his life.
Except for a short period at Mersey Paper Company he was a fisherman all his life and was still active at lobster fishing at 93. He was an excellent boat builder and personally built seven of his longlining and lobster boats over his long career. During the heyday of long line fishing he was a highliner for catch sizes and on one trip landed a record 219,000 pounds of fish.
He is survived by his son Roy Jr. (Jane) of Liverpool and daughters Nancy Hanley of Dartmouth, Phyllis (Dyrald) Cross of Labelle and Margaret Anne (Frank) Babin of Moose Harbour. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth; his sister Effie Laws and brothers John & Roland Payzant.
A visitation will be held at Chandlers Funeral Home, Liverpool from 7pm to 9pm on Monday July 16. A graveside internment will be held in St. Gregory’s Catholic Cemetery on College Street in Liverpool at 11:00 am on Tuesday July 17. Father Charles Offor officiating.
