Parlee, Reginald “Reg” Cherry, 76, of West Berlin, Queens County, passed away on Sunday February 14th, 2016, in Queens General Hospital, Liverpool.

Born in Moser River on March 20, 1939, he was the son of the late Charles and Edith (Moser) Parlee.

Reg moved to Halifax after finishing school to attend vocational school. He worked at Merit Insurance, where he met his wife of 54 years, Sadie. They settled in Timberlea, where they raised their family, while building their cottage in West Berlin. They started their business, Parlee & Ninos Insurance, in the mid-1960s, where they worked together for 30 years, until their retirement to West Berlin in 1994. He was always an avid lobster fisherman, first part-time and then full-time in his retirement years.

He loved the ocean and being on the water. Reg also enjoyed vegetable gardening, fishing, snowmobiling, playing cards with friends/family and vacations spent at a log cabin on Long Lake on the Eastern Shore.

He is survived by sons Tim (Susan), Glenn (Kathi), and daughter Richelle, grandchildren Caitlin (Chad), Hilary (Corey), Jennifer and Ryan, and great-grandchildren Liam and Logan. He is also survived by his sister Margaret (Bill) and sister-in-law Ethel Moser and many nieces and nephews.

As well as his parents, Reg is predeceased by his wife Sadie and siblings: Wilson (Posey), William (Ethel), Joyce (Percy)

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 17th, 2016, from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., and a Celebration of Reg’s Life will be held on Thursday, February 18th, 2016, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception, all from Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. Thinking of all of you. Momma and Poppa are together again — and I’m sure they will be a powerful force from the ‘flip side’. They certainly did an amazing job on this side — creating and raising wonderfully productive and good people as their family. A life well lived. Much love to all…
PS: Wish I would have known about the ‘Cherry’ — woulda harassed the heck outta him for that. <3

Condolence from PEGGY Payzant on February 15th, 2016 6:03 pm

Dear Glenn & Kathi & Extended Families,

I Am So Sorry To See That Mr. Parlee Has Passed Away. I Use To Wait On Mr. & Mrs. Parlee At Sobeys And Enjoyed Every Minute Of It. I Don’t Believe That I Have Ever Waited On Any Other Nicer People Than They Were. When Mrs Parlee Passed On , Mr. Parlee Would Come In To Try To Do His Shopping And He Still Came To My Register And I Enjoyed Seeing Him. But You Could Tell That His Heart Wasn’t Into It. I Would Try To Make Small Talk With Him But Was So Afraid That I Would Get Him Upset. He Sure Missed Your Mom So Much, But We Got Through It. I Remember When He Came In He Came Over To Me To Tell Me That His Wife, (SADIE) Thought The World Of Me And So Did He. He Thanked Me For Being There For Them Every Time They Came For Groceries. I Gave Him A Hug And Told Him That Everything Was Going To Be ok. He Gave Me A Big Smile That Brought Tears To My Eyes!!!. Mr. Parlee Is Now At Rest And With The Love Of His Life. I’m Sure There Are Numerous Happy Memories That They Left For You To Carry With You. Keep Those Happy Memories Tucked Inside Your Heart, They Will Help Get You Through Some Very Difficult Days Ahead. God Bless Each & Everyone Of You. Mr. Parlee Has Received His Golden Wings And Is Now Joined With His Other Angel!!!
Sinserely,
Peggy Payzant.

Condolence from Robin Kenney on February 16th, 2016 5:08 pm

when I was in school taking business we had to find a placement for work experience, my mother Martha Watt (growing up on the Eastern shore) knew Reg and contacted him, he had a full staff and couldn’t take me but was so nice he found me a placement for the 2 weeks at one of his insurance markets, I did my work experience and then worked there for 11 years and have been in the insurance industry for 31 years all because of Reg’s help. He was such a kind person to deal with. I was so sorry to hear of his passing.

Condolence from Paul McCormick on February 16th, 2016 5:59 pm

To the famy of Reg Parlee, I am a stranger, too all of you except Reg. In January 1976, I landed my first full-time job with the Red Cross. I still had one term left at NSCAD, but suddenly I was doing PR for Red Cross (while doing a corporate identity program for my degree). I bought a new Corolla for $3,200 and went to see Reg for insurance. It cost me $350 a year. He was so sweet! He became my insurance agent for two decades until his retirement. A smart, very wise man, we would sit each year while he educated me about insurance. I sent many friends to him, and they, too, remember him fondly. He was a great mentor. RIP.
