Parks – Donald Laurie, 87, of East Port Medway, Queens County, passed away on Friday, February 15th, 2019 in Queens General Hospital, Liverpool.
Born in North West Bay, Queens County, he was a son of the late Theodore and Winnie (Clattenburg) Parks.
Donald was born and lived his entire life on the old family homestead. He started working with his father at a young age in the family wood lot, fishing and trucking. He still enjoyed helping Chris and Dakota in the wood pile as recently as last summer. Donald was a great listener, but if anyone mentioned anything about a truck he would light up and could talk for hours. Donald’s greatest joy in life was his family and greatly loved his grandchildren who were his life. Donald was a homebody and his last trip down to the Bay was a very happy journey home.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Elizabeth (Schnare); daughter, Ann (Allan) Smith, of Brooklyn; son Chris, of Allison, New Brunswick; grandchildren, Staci, Sonia and Dakota; sister, Doris Wentzell, of Bridgewater.
He was predeceased by a sister, Jennie; brothers, George, Dean and Max.
Visitation will be Monday, February 18th, 2019 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. and a funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 19th, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in Chandlers’ Funeral Chapel, Liverpool. Pastor Peter Anthony officiating. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of your choice. To share memories or condolences, please visit www.chandlersfuneral.com

So sorry to hear about Donald’s passing. I often think about riding to the USA with him in the truck. Stuffing ourselves with Betty Anne’s donuts & molasses cookies along the way.

The Bay has lost its last founding father with him he has taken a wealth of knowledge about the area and many other things. Donald was a true jack of all trades, over the years he has turned his hand to just about anything and mastered all. I will miss his garden and all the wonderful produce he supplied me with. This talented man could fix a truck or tractor and than come inside and help with the making of the famous apple pies. Betty has told us that he was the best apple peeler in the county. I know from experience that he was great at peeling turnips and he showed up every November at the hall to help prepare vegetables for our supper. In his children Donald has passed on a strong will and work ethic. The Bay will not be same without him. The Parks and Parnells made the Bay what it is today, a wonderful ,peaceful and beautiful community to live and raise children.

Earle and Sally Slauenwhite
Betty, Ann, Chris and families: Our hearts are broken. Earle had known Donald close to 70 years. I had
known him since Earle and I married in 1971 and we raised our family alongside Donald’s family. He was not just a friend, he and Betty are our family. Our children spent more time at their house because they were their second parents while we worked outside the home. My children called him Daddy Duck and when Donald became a grandfather we called him Grampy Duck. Donald loved to feed the many ducks and birds that lived on the property.
He loved the land and he was his happiest when he was in the woods. The four of us made many trips together, shared many a laugh and cried tears of joy and sorrow.
Donald will be greatly missed in this small community. He was a founding father of this community and could tell you many stories of way back when.
He is now where there is peace, no pain, no troubles.
Good night Grampy Duck. Sleep peacefully. You will live forever in our hearts.
Love Earle, Sally, Ian, Robyne and families.

Dear Betty Ann & Family, we are so very sorry for your Loss. Donald was truly a Remarkable Man. Kenneth knew him for many years before I ever did and often told me how Donald had trusted him to drive his Dump Truck when he was just a teenager so had nerves of steel with that hard working ethic that he possessed. His knowledge of the Community is lost forever but hopefully the stories he has told to his Family and Friends will live on for eternity.
