PAGE – Helena Pearle, 94, of Liverpool, our dear Mom, passed away peacefully in Fisherman’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg on Friday, October 6, 2017.
Born in Little Harbour, Shelburne County, she was a daughter of the late Clifford and Frances (Hemeon) Swansburg.
Mom was a graduate of the Maritime Business College and, after her graduation, worked in Shelburne for J.J. Cox Limited and Atkinson & Bower Machine Shop as a secretary. In 1943, she married the love of her life, Cyril. For the first few years, they lived in Shelburne where they started their family and Mom worked for Shelburne Woodworkers as a bookkeeper. In 1955, they moved to Liverpool where they continued to grow their family and where Mom lived happily for over 62 years. During this time, Mom worked for Dr. John Wickwire as a medical secretary and often said it was her favourite job. Mom was a member of Zion United Church, UCW, Kinettes, K40 and Queens General Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing bridge, golfing, curling and caring for her family. Mom was a loving and caring person and her family was the most important part of her life. She was adored and loved by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews and will be dearly missed by all.
Pearle is survived by her daughters Noreen Page (Barry Tomalin) of Liverpool; Sheila (David) Manthorne of Dartmouth; her sons Kevin (Debbie) of Hunt’s Point and David (Debra) of Halifax. her grandchildren Jill (Trevor) Jamieson, Shelley (David) Chapman, Joel (Jo-Ann) Page, Michael (Pam) Page, Bryan Page, Matthew Page and Daniel Page. Her great grandchildren Harlow Jamieson, Mayes Chapman, Ethan, Liam and Aidan Page as well as many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her good friend Dr. Wendell Jeffrey.
Pearle was predeceased by her husband Cyril; her infant son Brian, her infant brother Eugene and her brothers Wesley (Louise) and Arthur (Florence).
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. Funeral service will be Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in Chandlers’ Funeral Chapel, Liverpool. Reverend Robert Chapman officiating. Reception to follow. A private family burial will take place at a later time in Zion United Cemetery, Payzant Street, Liverpool. Family flowers only, donations may be made to Queens General Hospital Foundation or to Zion United Church, Liverpool. Online condolences may be made to www.chandlersfuneral.com
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Pam Whynot who was not only Mom’s caregiver for many years but has been a wonderful friend to Mom as well as the entire family. We also wish to thank the nurses and doctors at Queens General Hospital and Fisherman’s Memorial Hospital for the wonderful care Mom received and also a special thank you to Dr. Mogan for her compassionate care.

Liverpool in the 1950s and 60s had an army of great “mums.” For those of us raised by those mums, “Mrs. Page” stood out. We will always remember her as the mum who greeted us with open arms and a big, loving smile, even after a rowdy sleep-over in the trailer by the side of the house. Her love of music infected many of us. I begged for an accordion for xmas in 1960 because “Mrs. Page” had a monster accordion and played it beautifully! Through Sheila, I became part of her happy inner circle. She gave us the best memories ever. Liverpool won’t feel the same without her. My sincere condolences to the family.

I was saddened to hear of the death of Pearl. I can still see her warm smile and I loved to listen to her play the accordion. I also ended up getting an accordion for Christmas one year when I was young, but unlike your Mom I couldn’t play a note, but I thought it would be cool to have one. No matter how long you have a parent you love in your life it is never seems long enough. You will appreciate she is at peace with your father, but you will miss her being with you. My thoughts are with all of you as you start your lives without her. It is not an easy journey so be kind to yourselves as you move forward.
