YOUNG – Mary Louise, 85, of Liverpool, Queens County, passed away peacefully on February 28th, 2011 in Middleton after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Born in Carleton Place, Ontario, on November 15th, 1925, Mary was a daughter of the late Reverend George E. and Charlotte (Dykes) Wright.
Mary grew up in Bellville, ON and after her marriage to Wilfred Young, she moved to the dreaded East Coast, settling in Liverpool where they raised their family. Mary was active in all Anglican church affairs, was a long time member of the ACW and sang in the church choir until her illness forced her stop. She was an avid reader, rug hooker and knitted countless pairs of mittens for her growing family and many worthy charities. She will be especially remembered by people around the world for her personalized knitted Christmas stockings which she made on request of her many friends.
Mary is survived by her daughters Kathy (Kirk) Elliott of Kamloops, BC; Barbara (Steven) Dennis of Eastern Passage; sons Kenneth of Liverpool, Peter of Ottawa and David of Lunenburg. 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Her sister Joan (Bob) Halliday of Ottawa.
She was predeceased by her husband Wilfred, sisters Frances, Phyllis and Ruth and brother William.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. A private family service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Trinity Anglican Church, Liverpool, the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or a charity of choice. Online condolences may be made to www.chandlersfuneral.com. The family would like to give a special thanks to Stonehaven Lodge and the former North Hills Nursing Home for their extra special care and treatment of Mom as she progressed through the stages of her disease. Words cannot say enough.
