William "Bill" Alvin Cox

d. November 6, 2025

William “Bill” Cox, 88, of Liverpool, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully at home on November 6, 2025.

Born in Truro, Nova Scotia, Bill was a son of the late Alvin and Ada (Crowe) Cox.

Bill began his working career by pursuing his lifelong passion for the military, proudly joining the Canadian Army. Although a medical discharge brought that chapter to an early close, his commitment to supporting veterans never faded. He remained an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion for over sixty years, where he continued to honour and support those who served.

Following his time in the army, Bill built a long and dedicated career with the Royal Bank of Canada, where he worked for 37½ years before retiring in 1992. Retirement, however, did little to slow him down. Bill devoted countless hours to community service, including the Masonic Lodge, where he was a devoted member for over fifty-nine years, the Order of the Eastern Star – Arbutus Chapter, and Queens Regional Council. He also volunteered with the Arthritis Society of Canada for over twenty-five years, offering his time and energy to a cause that mattered deeply to him.

Sports were another of Bill’s lifelong passions. He served with Hockey Nova Scotia, refereeing and supervising hockey across the region, and spent his summers behind home plate as a softball umpire—roles he embraced with pride and joy.

He will be remembered for his generosity, his steady presence, and his lifelong dedication to the community he proudly called home.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Anna; children John (Karen) of Dartmouth and Sally (Andrew) of Halifax; beloved grandchildren Samantha and Taylor; sister Marie; brother-in-law Nute (Ruth) ; sister-in-law Marcie (Peter); brother-in-law Gussie (Maria); sister-in-law Jean; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents, Bill was predeceased by his brother Gerald, and two infant brothers.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, NS where visitation will be held Tuesday, November 11, 2025 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and a Masonic service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Service will be on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in Chandlers’ Funeral Chapel with Reverend Peter Anthony officiating. Reception to follow in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Arthritis Society of Canada, or a charity of your choice.

Bill’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the team of home care workers — Monica, Donna, Brenda, and Jeanine — who allowed him to stay in his home until the very end, which was his ultimate wish.
