Wilfred Brenton McLeod

d. May 3, 2024

McLeod - Wilfred B., 78, of Southwest Port Mouton, Queens County, passed away suddenly, but peacefully, at home on Friday, May 3, 2024.

Born in Milton, Queens County, Wilfred was a son of the late Brenton W. and Ethel J. (Roy) McLeod.

Wilfred will be remembered by many for his experience as the captain of the Lady Phyllis and the Laurie Dawn plus other various owned boats. He travelled the ocean since the age of 14 when he left his one room schoolhouse to go fishing with his father. He would love to share his stories of bravery and friendships made all along the Atlantic Coast with anyone who would listen.

In his younger years he went hunting over to the Goose Hills and other areas throughout Queens County to provide for his family. He and his best friend would take their children hunting knowing all along that when they left that they wouldn’t get anything with fidgety kids.

Wilfred was forever helping someone in need. He saved at least 3 lives, his common law partner, crew member, and a community friend. He offered his home to people to film a movie, offered baths and such to strangers off yachts from foreign countries. Gave a place to stay and live to many including his handpicked daughter whom he included in different aspects throughout his life whether it be fishing, hunting, traveling, or exploring the beautiful nearby communities.

Wilfred fulfilled many firsts in his retirement years. Things such as going on a train, going for trips in both his daughter’s and grandson’s tractor trailers. Going on a bus and traveling to NL to find his boat the Laurie Dawn and getting on TV.

Wilfred had many cars and trucks in his lifetime, but nothing compared to the “Little Mr. Putt Putt” a used Smart car that he fell in love with, written on the back of the car it said, “Never Home”. He would be gone from daylight to dusk every day and all day.

Wilfred was always giving advice so in his final words : “Ya got to laugh, and ya got to keep goin’ or you won't be able to do nothin”.

Wilfred is survived by his daughter Laurie Ann (Jimmy) Daury of Truro. Grandchildren Jimmy Lee Daury (Kalie Olmstead), Dylan Daury (Alyssa Webber), Clayton “Clay” Daury (Taylor Sylvia), Kenny and Jenny Daury. His great grandchildren Treyson Knockwood, Devina Knockwood, Chloe Smith, Liam Daury, Chevy Daury and Skylar Daury. His sister Geneva (William) Wilson of Bell’s Point. Niece Tammy Wilson and nephew David Wilson.

Besides his parents, Wilfred was predeceased by his companion Diane Lavender and his best friend Johnny Roy.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 10, 2024 from Wilfred’s home, 158 Burgess Road, Southwest Port Mouton from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in Southwest Port Mouton Community Cemetery.
