McCoombs, Vincent Eugene., 77, of Mill Village, passed away October 18, 2025 in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Milton, Vincent was a son of Dorothy McCoombs.
During his childhood, Vince enjoyed playing little league baseball, being a boy scout, chumming around with friends and swimming in the Mersey River. After graduating from high school, he worked at Steel and Engines, Liverpool Furniture and then began his career at Bowater Mersey Paper Company Ltd. Vince started as a spare in 1970, became a Red Seal Industrial Mechanic Millwright and retired in 2001.
Vince met Opal at a garden party in 1969 and that’s where their love story began. They were married on May 16, 1970 and started to expand their family in 1974 with the birth of their only daughter, followed by two sons.
His favourite pastimes were woodworking where he created many beautiful pieces, photography - taking pictures of family weddings, animals and nature. He also enjoyed trout fishing, watching his youngest son play baseball and coaching the Mill Village little league team where both his boys played. He was a cub leader as well. He thrived on teaching his children and later on his grandchildren about life. Vince enjoyed tinkering around the house, he could “jimmy rig” anything and make it work. He was a jack of all trades and a master of many. Vince’s heart grew bigger when he became a “Papa” to his seven grandchildren and his four great-grandchildren.
After retirement Vince and Opal enjoyed dancing, little trips to different parts of Nova Scotia, daily ice caps from Tim Hortons, cribbage games, games of Uno with his kids, solitaire, baking, especially his Christmas fudge which was a yearly treat. He enjoyed his Sunday visits with his neighbour, Josh whom he called his adopted son and the Toronto Blue Jays. Vince was well liked and will be missed by many, especially his family.
Vincent is survived by his wife, Opal; daughter, Tanya McCoombs (Chad Manning) and his sons, Derek (Kelly George) and David (Natalie Comeau) as well as seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Betty (Bligh) Woodworth and his brothers, John and George (Adrienne).
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool.
