Sylvia E. Zwicker, of Liverpool, passed away at home with her daughters by her side at the age of 76 on July 22, 2024 and Douglas W. Zwicker who passed away at Queens General Hospital, Liverpool on the morning of Tuesday, November 18, 2025.
Sylvia was born in Bridgewater to the late Clarence “Hank” and Evelyn (Veinotte) Whynot and Douglas was born in Milton, the son of the late James P. and Elsie M. (Greek) Zwicker.
Sylvia worked at the Metropolitan Store, sold Avon and worked at Hanks Variety Store. She loved her trips on the Goldwing, Sunday drives, watching Coronation Street, but most of all she loved her family.
Doug was very friendly and giving. Always willing to help anyone in anyway or anytime. In the 70’s and early 80’s, Doug was a volunteer fire fighter for the Liverpool Fire Department. He had many hobbies; camping, stock car racing, motorcycles, four wheelers, gathering around the backyard fireplace and watching drag racing.
In the early 60’s, Doug was one of the many who left here and went to Ontario for work. When he came home, he started working offshore on the salvage tugs. In 1969, Doug married Sylvia (Whynot) and began working at Bowater Mersey.
Loving everything automotive, he built a garage, calling it “Doug’s Paint n Wrinkle in his backyard doing general maintenance and auto body repair in his spare time.
Sylvia and Doug are survived by daughters Kim (Brian) Mansfield, Liverpool and Krista Zwicker, Liverpool. grandson Benjamin Mansfield and granddaughter Evelyn Zwicker (Kyle Giffin) as well as Doug’s sisters Cynthia Truelove, Milton and Judy (Billy) Stevens, Port Medway. Brother Donald (Angela), Sandy Cove as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides their parents; Sylvia was predeceased by her sister, Judy and Doug was predeceased by his sister Catherine Ramey; sisters-in-law Sharon and Shirley. Brothers Arthur and Harry and brothers-in-law Sydney “Syd” Ramey and Lawrence “Larry” Truelove.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. A graveside funeral service will be held Monday, May 4, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in Trinity Anglican Cemetery, Bog Road, Liverpool. No flowers by request, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Canadian Diabetes Association, Queens General Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank palliative care, VON and all of the doctors and nurses that were involved in Sylvia’s cancer journey and the staff on the second floor of Queens General Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion of Doug.
