It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and special aunt Shirley Christine Levy, 90, whose life was filled with adventure, generosity, and deep love for her family.

Born in Charleston, Queens County, Mom was the daughter of the late Norman and Mary (Anthony) Whynot. She approached everything and everyone with enthusiasm, whether it was the thrill of stock car racing in her early years; working at Lanes and the Liverpool Dry Cleaners, where she made lifelong friends; taking Red Cross courses to help care for others; enjoying lively variety shows with friends on the weekend; setting out on long drives; or just a quick trip around “the head.” She treasured every special occasion spent surrounded by her loving family, whose lives will be forever enriched by her warmth, laughter, and unwavering devotion.

Mom settled into family life at a young age with Dad, raising her three children in Mersey Point. She was well known for her baking, especially her “wacky chocolate cake,” which she baked every day for many years. The home was always full of neighbourhood family, friends, and laughter, building memories and stories that we will always cherish together. Everyone who met Mom loved her. Her kindness was infectious, and once she met you, you were her friend for life. She had the gift of gab and a unique way of telling a story, often laughing through the telling. You knew she was serious when she said, “the part of it is,” or “no word of a lie.”

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Heather (Butch Hurshman) of Brooklyn; son Barry (Sharon) of Mersey Point; and daughter-in-law Wanda of Brooklyn. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Sherri, Shawn, Stacey, Christine, Bradley, and Nicole; ten great-grandchildren, Josh, Brayden, Adam, Christian, Olivia, Sydney, Colton, Kayden, Sara, and Peyton; one great-great-grandchild, Gage; her sister Yvonne “Bonnie” of Port Mouton; and many nieces and nephews.

Mom was predeceased by her husband Ralph; infant son Bryan; son Ricky; sisters Linda, Norma, Marie, Betty, Myrtle, and Joan; and brothers Dana and James.

As per Mom’s wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, NS and a graveside service will be held at a later date in Trinity Anglican Cemetery, Bog Road, Liverpool. No flowers by request, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

A special thank you to Queens Manor for the friendships Mom continued to form with both staff and residents during her time there.
