Scott Charles Davidson - de Ruyter
1975 – 2025
Scott Charles Davidson - de Ruyter, 50, of Toronto, Ontario (formerly of Liverpool, Nova Scotia), passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto, with his mother by his side.
Family meant everything to Scott, and he meant everything to us. During his courageous 16-month battle with stage 4 colon and liver cancer, he was surrounded by love and unwavering support from his partner Ada and close family: Sally, Rudy, Mandy, Matthew, and Samara. His strength, sense of humor, and easy smile never faded, even in the toughest moments.
Born in Wolfville, NS, and raised in Liverpool from 1985 onward, Scott was a proud East Coaster with a deep love for home and an even deeper love for the people in it. He graduated from Liverpool Regional High School (LRHS) in 1993, where he was known for his quick wit, big laugh, and even bigger personality. As a member of the LRHS Warriors basketball team, the annual Christmas basketball festivals were a highlight. Scott loved the energy, competition, and camaraderie. But if there was one place where Scott truly came alive, it was on the baseball diamond. A gifted pitcher, he was in his element with a glove on his hand and dust on his cleats. One of his proudest moments was winning the Atlantic Canadian Champions with the Liverpool Bantam team in 1990 under Coach John Armstrong. A lifelong Blue Jays fan, Scott rarely missed an opener and cherished weekend game trips with his brother Matthew, his friend Albert, and "the boys" from home.
Scott made Toronto his home in adulthood, building a life he loved in the heart of the city. His work at the Radisson on the Waterfront suited him perfectly. Scott was a people person through and through, a true social butterfly who could make friends anywhere and always had a story to tell. Even while thriving in the city, he never lost his connection to home. Trips back to Nova Scotia, especially during the holidays, were filled with laughter, loud kitchen table conversations, and the kind of sibling teasing that only comes with deep love.
Scott leaves behind many who loved him dearly: his mother, Sally de Ruyter (Liverpool, NS); his fathers, Rudy de Ruyter (Malagash, NS) and Mike Davidson (White Rock, NS); his siblings Mandy de Ruyter (Nick Fralic) of Brooklyn, Matthew (Jennifer) de Ruyter of Brookside, and Samara (Colt) Newell of Vogler’s Cove; his niece and nephews, Lexi, Axl, Chase, Kai, Jackson, Charlie, and Bo, who adored their "Uncle Scott"; his loving partner of five years, Ada Persaud of Toronto, and his godparents, Bill and Linda Farrow of Malagash. He also leaves behind a wide circle of extended family, friends, co-workers, and teammates from across the years.
Scott was predeceased by his maternal grandparents Charles and Sylvia Farrow, paternal grandparents Wouter and Lenie de Ruyter, and paternal grandparents Joseph and Greta Davidson.
Cremation has taken place in Toronto, and a private family burial will follow at MacKenzie Cemetery in Malagash, NS. A celebration of life will be held on July 20th at 2 p.m. at The Seaside Centre in Beach Meadows. Online condolences may be made below.
Donations in Scott’s memory can be made to the Liverpool Privateers Baseball Club, an organization close to his heart.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to all of Scott’s friends, co-workers, and caregivers for their compassion, kindness, and support throughout his illness. Scott often spoke about how much your messages, visits, and calls meant to him.
Scott was a loving son, a loyal brother, a proud uncle, a devoted partner, and a friend who lit up every room he entered. He had a heart as big as his laugh and a spirit that will be remembered forever. His life was full, his impact was deep, and his memory will live on in all who knew and loved him.
