Gatzke, Sandra Sylvia, 86, of Lucasville, Halifax County passed away Sunday, February 1, 2026 at the Halifax Infirmary surrounded by loved ones.
Born in South West Port Mouton, Sandra was a daughter of the late Lockie and Irene (Bowers) Burgess.
Sandra worked at many jobs. She had a love of cooking, baking, quilting, reading and her family. Her grandchildren have fond memories of her angel food cake and warn fresh strawberries with the biggest dollop of whip cream on top. Sandra truly lived life to the fullest through travel, chatting with friends and family, card games, sweet treats and spending time with her family.
Sandra was a member of the Anglican Church of Canada for many years until recently when she left to become a member of the Anglican Network in Canada. She was a member of the Women’s Institute, Hospital Auxiliary, Seniors Group and ACW.
Sandra leaves behind her loving husband, Charles; son, Gregory (Emily); grandchildren, Michelle (Justin), Michael, Corey (Krista) and Ryan (Courtney). Also 10 great-grandchildren, Kylee, Brody, Mason, Elijah, Ben, Lilly, Westley, Cruz, Brooks and Vivienne; brothers Mac (Darlene), Gordon (Cathy) and sister, Joann (Stanley).
Sandra is predeceased by daughter, Melody (Mike) and daughter-in-law, Janet; sisters Faye, Oressa and Carol and her brother, Pat.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 9, 2026 from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m., followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m., both from Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. Burial will be at a later date. No flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made below.
