Ramey - Ruth E., 80, of Lakeside, NS passed away on Monday, October 7, 2025 at the Veteran’s Memorial Building , Halifax, NS after a long courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Westfield, Queens County, Ruth was the eldest daughter of the late Herman and Theresa (Mansfield) Mansfield.
Ruth worked at numerous vocations over her lifespan one of which she was most proud of was working as a superintendent alongside her husband, Bobby, for 28 years in Timberlea. Other work opportunities that Ruth undertook were with Eastern Meat Purveyors, Eastern Drug, Golden Silk Screeners, Fairview Villa and, in later years, she joined her sister in law Patsy caring for physically and mentally challenged adults.
Ruth was a talented gardener. She loved the dirt! She had numerous thriving flower gardens over the years. Ruth was a chartered member of the Bay Road Baptist Church from 1993 to 2010 where she held many positions. Her favourite was as church hostess. Ruth loved to cook and bake: sharing it with others. She was a “giver” of her time and talents. Ruth also worked with Feed NS-Food Bank at Bay Road Baptist Church. She had a passion for feeding people that was evident by her gifts of baked and cooked items. She could not handle the thought of others being hungry.
Ruth was a God-fearing lady. It was her never wavering faith that kept her going through many of life’s challenges, especially during illnesses. She was also a “shooter right from the hip”. If it was the truth you wanted, you got it! Ruth’s love for her family was fierce and protective, others might say “controlling”, but she had that mothering trait for them all.
Ruth is survived by her daughter Paula (Dwaine) Boutilier; grandson Rory (Adrienne); sisters Darlene (Robert) Wright, Barbara (David) Uhlman and brothers Reide, Stephen, Dennis (Joan), Gary (Toddy), Edward and Scott (Patty).
Besides her parents, Ruth was predeceased by her husband of 39 years Robert; daughter Sheila; sister Margaret Whynot and brothers Herbert, Lloyd, Howard and Henry.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. A graveside funeral service will be held in Pine Rest Cemetery, Greenfield on Friday, October 17, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. In memory of Ruth, she asked that people make a donation to Feed NS or to your local food bank or community pantry. Even after numerous hospital stays over the last few years and while living at the Veterans, Ruth still continued to give to her Community Pantries in the Beechville, Lakeside and Timberlea area. Ruth was a giver of her time and talents, but most of all, she gave her love.
We can never express in words our heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Veterans Memorial Building 4VE for their love, care and support for Mom where she was known simply as “Ramey” or “Mommy”.
Thank you to Dr. French, Dr. Alex Nelson, Dr. Maria Long and the Tantallon Medical Clinic for their loving care to Mom over the years.
