ROY – EARL EUGENE, 69, of Liverpool, Queens County, N.S., passed away on Monday, December 18, 2023 in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, NS.
Born in Western Head, N.S., Earl was a son of the late Willis and Doris (Huphman) Roy.
Earl worked for Mersey Seafoods from the age of 14 until he retired. He was a scallop fisherman working on several scallop draggers. The Judith Suzanne (which sunk in the early 90’s he was on board at the time). The latest up until retirement on the G.S. Mersey. Earl was a hard worker on and off the boat. At home there was always something to do, he was always busy. Earl loved going for his morning walks and hardly missed a day, most of the time you would see him walking laps at Pine Grove and the Trestle Trail. Earl was a avid hunter, he loved the woods and knew a lot about the sport. When fall came, the woods in Greenfield was his second home. He spent a lot of time there with family and friends. In the spring he loved trout fishing. Christmas was one of his favorite times of the year, he enjoyed putting up his Christmas lights and loved when family and friends visited over the holidays. Earl loved his cats along with strays in the neighborhood, he would always make sure they were fed. Earl will be missed by his family and friends.
Earl is survived by his wife Jane (Whynot); daughter Samantha Roy (Lee Coombs) of Liverpool; sons Ashley (Sarka) of Liverpool, Shawn (Shaninne) of Eagle Head and Cory (Vanessa) Whynot of Greenfield; grandchildren Cassidy, Caleb, Wesley, Grayson, Chloe, Jayden, Marissa and Courtney; great grandchildren Luke, Maddox, Grayson and Everly; sisters Susan Roy of Windsor and Ellen (Eric) Bonnell of Italy Cross; brother Burton (Glenda) of Brooklyn.
Besides his parents, Earl was predeceased by sisters Anna Hanson, Jane Hanson, Rose Roy, Cynthia Wilson, Brothers Clifford and Gary.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, Nova Scotia. At Earl’s request, there will be no service. Condolences may be made to www.chandlersfuneral.com.
The family would like to thank the Doctors and Nursing Staff of Queens General Hospital, Liverpool and the ICU Doctors and Nurses of South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater for all the care that was given to Earl.
