Dagley, Roy Everett
We laughed, we cried, we told stories and we prayed with Roy as we prepared for his passing. On July 8th, 2025, Roy Everett Dagley of Voglers Cove died at Queens General Hospital, Liverpool, a few days before his 80th birthday, the 16th of July.
Community was always important to Roy. When he landed in Lunenburg after each trip, he shared his haddock and maybe Northern cod with the “old guys” who Roy and his dad, Newman always visited when he was young. Roy’s childhood home always had visitors as his mom, Thelma (Baker) Dagley was the best baker in the neighbourhood. Roy was a founding member of United Communities Fire Dept and the United Communities Marine Park (he knew of the extra space next to the Harbour Authority of the United Communities wharf). Roy went to school in the Voglers Cove East School and helped develop the Community Hall and Maggie’s Playground. He was a member of the Wesley United Church, Petite Riviere.
Throughout the last ten years of his life, since being diagnosed with cancer, Roy has led an active life: working, going to coffee times, always meeting for food and spending time with friends and family. Until very recently, and very quickly, he fought through unwellness.
Roy has been respected and provided with life-saving medications through research. For each step, Roy and family thank the doctors and nurses, dietician and cooks, and all the hospital staff, especially at Queens General Hospital, where he spent his last days. In every hospital, he was the shown the greatest concern for his overall health.
Roy is survived by his wife, Shirley (Cross); sons, Tim and his children, Caelan (Sydney) and Rolen; Matthew (Trish) and their children, Madison, Dylan and Brady; Jason (Lesley) and their children, Cody and Julia. Also survived by sisters, Jeanette Toplis of Brooklyn, Kathryn (Randolph) Whynot, Wanda (Kenny Ingram) and Ann Kenneally, all of Liverpool; brother Stephen (Valerie) of Voglers Cove as well as many nieces and nephews. Always part of Roy’s family were Shirley’s sisters, Audrey, Margaret (Bert), Rita and Noreen (Ronnie).
Roy was predeceased by brothers, Harold Kenneally, Steve Hatt and Garfield Slauenwhite and Shirley’s sister, Gerry.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, NS.
A wake will be celebrated in the United Communities Fire Hall from 4:00 - 6:00 pm on Friday, July 18th, 2025. Donations may be made to a charity of choice. On line condolences may be made below.
