Rosaline "Rose" Marie Baker

d. October 7, 2025

Rosaline “Rose” Marie Baker age 80, of Liverpool, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully at Queens Manor on Tuesday, October 7th, 2025 with her loving family at her side.

Rose, the daughter of Harold and Ruby Pearl (Cooper) Baker, grew up in Baker’s Point, East Jeddore, Nova Scotia, and lived in different parts of the province throughout her adulthood, settling in Queens County with her family in 1978. Rose was the second oldest of ten children, and her maternal instincts were developed at an early age as she helped raise her younger siblings.

Rose was first and foremost a motherly person. In addition to raising her three beautiful daughters, Debra (Deb), Diane (Di), and Rosanna (Annie), she was a dedicated and loving grandparent (Granny) to five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Whether it was doing the girls’ hair before school, putting together a pot of chicken soup on a whim, or travelling across Canada and to the UK and US, Rose always put these people—those she was most proud of—first. Rose also had a special relationship with her sister and best friend, Elaine, who she shared many laughs and scratched many lottery tickets with during their weekend getaways and visits throughout the years. Her maternal love extended to those beyond her bloodline as well, including the several foster children she cared for in the 1970 and ‘80s, many birds, cats, and dogs over the years, and of course, her impressive teapot collection.

Rose shared 61 wondrous years with her beloved husband and soulmate, Fred, who passed away this past January after his battle with Alzheimer’s disease. The undying love between Rose and Fred was clear to all who knew them. Despite experiencing their fair share of hardships, including the loss of an infant son, Rose’s battles with cancer and mental illnesses, and most recently, Fred’s Alzheimer’s, they created and enjoyed a happy life together. This included running a convenience store, Hank’s Variety, with their daughter, Diane, while in their fifties and early sixties. After raising her family and keeping a clean and healthy home, Rose played a different but important role at Hank’s, which included unpacking and organizing the weekly orders and opening up the store each day with Fred. In later years, Rose enjoyed her and Fred’s near daily coffee dates at McDonald’s, Friday nights at Liverpool Pizzeria, hosting Sunday morning breakfasts, listening to Celtic Thunder, browsing Dollarama, sipping on Coca-Cola, doing her word searches, and most importantly, spending time and chatting with her loved ones.

Rose’s maternal calling and love for her family were triumphed only by her strength. Rose did not have any easy life, having struggled with severe depression and cancer several times. Throughout those times, however, she exhibited a level of strength that many will never know. She survived a 20+ hour, life-saving surgery at age 58 and still cared for loved ones in some of her darkest days. Her strong will to live and overcome some of life’s largest hurdles came from her desire to experience the simpler things in life, whether it was weekend visits to Jeddore, birthday celebrations on Meadow Pond Lane, family barbecues at Wharf Rock Road, or outings with family in Baltimore. While Rose may be at the end of her current story on Earth, her remarkable strength will make her presence known to generations to come.

Rose leaves behind many loved ones near and far: her mother, Ruby Pearl Baker; three daughters, Debra (David) Herman, Diane Wolfe (Corey Leblanc), and Rosanna Baker (Sin Urban); grandchildren, Melissa (Blake) Dickens, Jessica Wolfe, Brianna Wolfe (Devon Turple), Joshua Urban (Beth Gillis), and Zachary Urban; great-granddaughter, Ember Dickens; sisters, Marge (Alex) Murphy, Florence (Peter) Wallis, Elaine (Dennis) Perry, Janette (David) Faulkner, and Glenda (Chris) Perry; brothers, Harold (Louise) Baker, Wyman (Joanne) Baker, and Darren (Barb) Baker; and several generations of nieces and nephews.

Rose was predeceased by a son in infancy, her father, Harold Baker, husband, Fred Baker, sister, Donna Baker, and several extended family members.

Cremation has taken place under the directions of Chandlers’ Funeral Home in Liverpool, Nova Scotia. At Rose’s request, there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association, Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia, or a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made below.

We sincerely thank the staff and volunteers at Queens Manor for their compassionate care and love for Rose in her final years. She was particularly fond of Ben Hatt, who was always able to put a smile on her face. We also appreciate the services of Dr. Norah Mogan and the staff at Chandlers’ Funeral Home. Rose will be deeply missed and remembered always by her loving family and those who were lucky enough to know her.
