Robert Alvin Broome

d. May 29, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we, the family of Robert A. Broome announce his passing, after a short, but courageous battle with Glioblastoma, on Friday, May 29, 2026 at Queens General Hospital, Liverpool.

Born in Liverpool, Dad was a son of Percy and Dorothy (Meisner) of Sandy Cove.

From the time Dad was able to he was always tinkering with something. When he was 16 he started working at Mersey Seafoods, where he worked for over 40 years. Later in life Dad started jigging in the woodpile and decided he wanted to start a little business selling firewood. Over the years Dad provided many families with their winter’s wood. He was so proud that he was able to have three of his grandsons in the woodpile with him and could show them a good work ethic.

In April 2023 our world shattered when Mom passed away and Dad was lost. Just three months later Dad underwent a triple bypass and then decided his firewood business would be no more. It was a hard decision to make, but he knew it was for the best. Dad kept himself busy, or tried to, but he missed Mom dearly and it showed. He bought a model fishing boat and was so proud of it, displaying it in the livingroom. He put Mom’s and his girls’ names on it and showed it with pride and his infectious smile to everyone who visited.

Dad loved to have company, whether it be for a few minutes or a few hours. He often could be seen sitting out watching for the deer or feeding the many squirrels and chipmunks. He was a jack of all trades, that’s for sure.

Robert leaves behind his three daughters, Shelley (Kevin Weagle) of Brooklyn, Amanda (Brian Lively) of Dartmouth and Jenn (Stuart Selig) of Brooklyn; grandchildren, Matthew (Tonya) Weagle, Kyle Weagle (Desiree Rogers), Cody Weagle (Jacey Turner), Brianna Belding (Joshua Gee), Britttany Belding (Austin Gallant), Elijah Belding and Katie Beldind (Shawn Rushton); great-grandchildren, Sadie, Roselynn, Mariah, Kinsley, Sierra, Grace and Violet. Bonus great-grandchildren, Seth, Quinn and Everley. Also survived by sister, Jean Broome of Brooklyn and brother, William “Billy” of Toronto.

Besides his parents, Dad was predeceased by wife, Janet and sister, Brenda.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, a service will be held Thursday, June 11, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in Chandlers’ Funeral Chapel. Interment will take place in Seaside Cemetery, Brooklyn at which time Mom will be laid to rest with Dad. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society. Online condolences may be made to www.chandlersfuneral.com .

The family wishes to thank all the doctors and nurses at SSRH and QEII, but especially Queens General for all your care, compassion and professionalism during Dad’s stay. Thank-you will never be enough, but we thank each and everyone of you from the bottom of our hearts.
