It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, partner, sister, and friend, Lorraine Connolly, who left us peacefully on December 20, 2025, at the age of 83.
Born in English Harbour West, NL, Lorraine was a daughter of the late Gerald and Dorcas Evans.
Lorraine lived a life filled with warmth, laughter, and genuine connection. In Cape Breton, her home was always alive with kitchen parties, good music, and even better company. Over the years she built a wonderful community of friends, and together they shared card games, storytelling, and endless laughter. She especially cherished her shopping trips with her sister-in-law, Betty, where the two of them could spend hours together, sharing stories and moments she held dear.
Lorraine’s love of horses began through her late husband, Adrian Connolly, and it quickly grew into something she truly cherished. She became known for her creativity, designing beautiful and imaginative costumes for her daughters, Tammy and Karen, and their ponies. She kept everything running smoothly behind the scenes and always made sure everyone was well fed with her delicious cooking. Her baking—especially her famous cakes—became legendary among family and friends.
For many years, she worked at St. Joseph’s Elementary School, where she built lifelong friendships. She had a special love for kids and the hallways there hold countless memories of shared laughter, quiet mischief, and the joy she brought into the lives of students and staff. When she moved to Greenfield with her partner, Lloyd Hunt, she continued to make meaningful connections. The two of them hosted many wonderful potlucks over the years, especially on Christmas Eve, filling their kitchen with warmth, laughter, and love. Christmas was one of Lorraine’s favourite times of year; she delighted in decorating the house, setting out her Christmas dishes, and creating a space that felt magical for everyone who visited.
She also had a deep love for animals, always caring for neighbourhood pets and even feeding the local raccoons, feral cats, and deer. Lorraine’s kindness extended to every living creature, and those small acts of care became part of what made her so special. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, humour, resilience, and love. Lorraine will be deeply missed by all who knew her and forever remembered in the hearts of those whose lives she touched.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. Although there are no funeral plans at this time, the family will gather with friends to celebrate her life in the spring of 2026. Details will be shared closer to that time. Online condolences may be made below.
