We share with sadness and gratitude that Paul Dexter died at home in Liverpool, Nova Scotia, on November 5, 2025, in his 84th year. We remember him honestly—grateful for what was good and tender with what was hard.
Born in Liverpool, Paul was the son of Paul Daxter and Roseanna (Inness)(Dexter)Webb.
A curious and determined student, he attended Boston College before joining the U.S. Air Force. A devout Catholic, his path also included years of discernment in the Jesuit order and seminary, remaining active in the church throughout his life. In time he returned to civilian life, met Pauwlina (Holleman)(Seaman) and started his family.
Entrepreneurial by nature, Paul started the first shuttle service from the South Shore to Halifax hospitals and the airport, providing a much needed service to his community. He loved cars—driving them, watching races, and admiring restored classics—and he loved sharing his rituals with his family. After Mass on Sundays he would stop for donuts for the kids before the drive home; , he delighted in the annual trek into the woods to pick out the family Christmas tree, and making sure each of his children had picked out their own special pumpkin to carve at Halloween. . Paul was a creative storyteller with a way of inspiring the imagination —while remaining, to many, a bit of a mystery.
Paul is survived by his children Pauwlina Cyca, Dina Dexter, and John Dexter; and by his stepsons Dannie Seaman, Ike Seaman, and Paul Seaman. He is remembered by his grandchildren Melissa Larsen (Seaman), Mariah Harvie (Seaman), Devan Seaman, Sophia McGrath, Paloma McGrath, and Cormac McGrath; and by cousins Robert, Mary, and Elizabeth.
Besides his parents, Paul was predeceased by his wife, Pauwlina (Holleman)(Seaman) in 2018.
