Nancy Mae Dobson passed away peacefully on September 16, 2025, in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, at the age of 90.
Born in River John, Nova Scotia, to Dorothy Coleman (née Peck) and Harry Coleman,
Nancy spent nine decades proving that life is best lived with a song in your heart and a puzzle on the table. She was a woman who believed that if you weren't making music, solving puzzles, or moving your body, you probably weren't living life properly. She graced church and community choirs with her voice, brought audiences to their feet in Kinsman/Kinette Variety shows, and lit up the stage in Winds of Change Musical Theatre productions. When she wasn't performing, you could find her perfecting her curling delivery, chasing a golf ball around the course, or power-walking the Trestle Trail with the determination of someone half her age. Her mind was as sharp as her wit—she could demolish a crossword puzzle faster than most people could read the clues, and her Scrabble opponents learned to fear both her vocabulary and her strategic tile placement. Bridge partners knew that Nancy didn't just play her cards; she played them brilliantly. And when all else failed, there was always a jigsaw puzzle waiting to be conquered on her dining room table. Above all, Nancy treasured visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her endless joy and probably a few grey hairs she wore as badges of honour. Her laughter filled rooms, her energy inspired everyone around her, and her love for life was absolutely contagious. She will be missed by all who loved her. Nancy is survived by her children Warren Dobson of Liverpool, NS; Alan (Marlene) Dobson of Parksville, BC; Steven (Laura) Dobson of Dartmouth, NS; Joy Melanson of Mill Village, NS; and Neil Dobson of Liverpool, NS. She leaves behind nine grandchildren: Erin (Tony), Ginger (Michael), Jennifer, Jamie, Drew (Telena), Lisa (Mark), David, Lindsay (Chris), Nancy (Eric), ten great-grandchildren: Riley, Ayden, Isla, Ever, Maverick, Lincoln, Rowan, Emilia, Lexi and Brianna, and two great-great-grandchildren: Lilly and Carter, who will undoubtedly continue her tradition of keeping everyone on their toes.
Besides her parents, Nancy was predeceased by her beloved husband Harold Dobson, her son David (Judy) Dobson, and her granddaughter Amy Dobson as well as her brothers Bill (Mamie) Coleman and Les (Marg) Coleman,
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, NS. In accordance with her wishes, Nancy will have a private family burial at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests you take a daily walk, sing a little louder in the shower, or tackle that puzzle you've been avoiding—Nancy would approve.
