Donald Richard Moreau

It is with heavy hearts that we are sad to announce the passing of Donald Richard Moreau, our Dad, Papa, Brother and Keeper of the Cove on October 2nd, 2023.
Born and raised in Port Medway, Donald was a son of the late Lemuel and Geraldine (Clattenburg) Moreau and the oldest of 6 siblings.
As a son of a lighthouse keeper, Donald enjoyed every aspect of living life on the water and spent many hours strolling the shores for treasures, fishing, rowing his dory to check the kayak nets and jumping ice cakes in the winter.
Donald settled down finding his place on the Medway River with his loving wife Joan and his two daughters. He very quickly found his calling becoming the bus driver of Mill Village route #117 where he met and made many friends with the students and families over his 29-year career.
Donald’s greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with his three grandsons. He taught them many life lessons such as fileting and smoking fish, cutting in sauerkraut, jumping ice cakes, picking periwinkles, digging worms and how to get every piece of meat out of a lobster from head to tail.
At every opportunity, Donald enjoyed taking part in any adventure that came his way. Over the years he spent many nights camping with friends and family, sharing stories around the campfire in “The Park”, taking road trips to find the next big winning break open, playing Thursday night Bingo and enjoying the company and conversations of his neighbors and friends of Port Medway.
Donald’s greatest gift to everyone around him was his humor, smart wit, storytelling and charm. Although he has left us with stories and memories that will last a lifetime, he also leaves us with a huge void in our hearts as we wish for more time to add to the memories that we have made together.
Donald is survived by his wife Joan (Godfrey); daughter Amanda (Terry) Conrad of West Berlin. Son-in-law Randy Lohnes of Port Medway. Grandsons Kyle and Alex Conrad and Andrew Lohnes.
Sister Barbara Parnell of Port Medway and brothers Leo (Barb hatt) of Mill Village, Roger of Brooklyn, Byron and Paul, both of Port Medway.
Besides his parents, Donald was predeceased by his daughter Ann Lohnes.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, NS. At Donald’s request there will be a private family graveside service at a later date. There will be a Celebration of Life taking place for Donald at the Port Medway Fire Hall on Wednesday October 11th from 1:00pm – 4:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
The family would like to thank Dr. Jennifer MacDonald, Palliative Care and the Medical Floor staff at Queens General Hospital for their compassion and care shown over the last several weeks. We would also like to thank Chandler’s Funeral Service for showing a high level of compassion as they helped our family make Donald’s final arrangements.
To our family and friends; your unwavering support during this difficult time through phone calls, visits and messages has been greatly appreciated.Online condolences to www.chandlersfuneral.com
